Job summary

The post is a one-year fixed term contract and is a unique opportunity for a trainee with an interest in education to develop a high-level of capability working in the field of simulation and inter-professional training. It will suit an individual who has an interest in medical education and educational research. The role supports postgraduate and undergraduate clinical training within medicine and surgery, with an emphasis on simulation/Technology Enhanced Learning - TEL and clinical skills. This post is designed for an individual who wishes to undertake further training in a medical specialty and education prior to their speciality training programme or as part of an out of programme experience. It provides an opportunity to develop teaching skills, extending knowledge of educational theory and undertaking educational research.

Main duties of the job

Facilitating the delivery of simulation programmes across speciality areas

Leading faculty in the delivery of 'train the trainers' workshops

Developing an understanding of educational theories

Understanding the provision of simulation-based education (course design, scenario design, facilitation and debriefing techniques)

Understanding assessment and evaluation methodology

Knowledge of performance science and human factors and their role in simulation-based learning and the clinical environment.

Participation in the development and teaching of new and existing courses in the simulation and clinical skills environment to ensure that curriculum needs for trainees are met.

Job responsibilities

Applications are invited for the post of Simulation Fellow at St. Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The ideal candidate will be a doctor with a minimum of two years post-foundation training and previous experience of simulation training. Candidates should be able to demonstrate confidence in leading clinical teaching programmes and will have familiarity with Human Factors and Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL).

This role is tailored for trainees looking to develop their experience in simulation, research, and medical education. The successful applicant will gain hands-on experience in simulation training, at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level. Subject to funding, there may be opportunities to pursue additional academic qualifications.

The position is a full-time commitment for a fixed term of 12 months. As part of the Trust-wide simulation faculty, the post holder will collaborate in delivering simulation training to multi-professional clinical teams. Our state-of-the-art centre is fully equipped to facilitate high-fidelity simulation training programs, alongside part-task training.
