Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity to join Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Cardiology Simulation Fellow - Clinical Educator. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering a cardiac simulation program for cardiology trainees, focusing on practical and interventional skills.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver a cardiac simulation program for cardiology trainees, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills to perform practical and interventional procedures.
  • Support pericardiocentesis simulation sessions at two British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) simulation events per year.
  • Develop, plan, and deliver skills training and simulation courses within the trust, working closely with clinical specialists.
  • Prepare and produce resources and IT materials required to support skills training and simulation courses.
  • Develop simulation teaching packages that reflect current evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the development of patient-focused, collaborative protocols and practices.
  • Identify opportunities for multi-disciplinary teaching and learning within the trust.
  • Participate as faculty, including debriefer and embedded practitioner, on simulation training days.
  • Act in accordance with the General Medical Council's standards, codes of conduct, and scope of professional practice.
  • Participate in quality assurance, evaluation, and audit of programs.
  • Assist in the development and progress of faculty members.
  • Participate in approved research as indicated.
  • Operate simulation manikins independently and liaise with manufacturers to ensure hardware and software meet health service requirements.
  • Work with industry partners to develop training programs and modules that augment cardiology training, as described in the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) curriculum.
Person Specification

Clinical Ability

  • Senior clinical fellow with the ability to teach practical skills to junior trainees, either in electrophysiology or interventional cardiology.
  • Competent in both core cardiology and specialist cardiology work, either in electrophysiology or coronary intervention.

Desirable

  • Prizes or distinctions.
  • Presentation of work at a national or international meeting.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Audit work.

Eligibility

  • Cardiology trainee with a National Training Number (NTN) - Grade ST6-7 +.
