Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow Trust IMT3/ST3+ Level. Depending on availability you may be placed in the following areas, Acute Medicine with Neurology/Renal Medicine with Neurology/Care of the Elderly. This post is available for a fixed term of one year from 7th August 2024 - 5th August 2025.

This placement is for a doctor who wants to undertake elements of specialty registrar training to acquire specific training and experience. The shortlisting will be undertaken using the Person Specification, but some emphasis will be placed on the training requirements of individual candidates and their career aims.

Main duties of the job

Work as part of team to provide best medical management to patients under your care

Supervise and teach more junior staff on the ward

Liaise with relatives and carers

Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team

Lead Medical Team during on calls and out of hours, including management of cardiac arrest calls.

The department of Geriatric Medicine provides acute in-patient services, post-acute rehabilitation, stroke and ortho-geriatric services and out-patient clinics at the West Suffolk Hospital site. In addition we provide out-patient clinics, and falls clinics in conjunction with Suffolk PCT at community hospitals in Newmarket and Sudbury and medical services to a 16 bedded rehabilitation ward in the community hospital at Newmarket.

The department of Renal Medicine provides acute in-patient services on ward F8 (+associated outlier wards), outreach renal service for inpatients and a variety of Nephrology clinics including general nephrology, renal transplant, predialysis (low clearance), dialysis clinic, joint diabetes/renal, paediatric transition clinic. There are also close links with other specialties- including a weekly ITU ward round reviewing patients on ITU with AKI especially those requiring renal replacement therapy and a monthly cardio-renal MDT. The Nephrology consultants oversee the day to day running of the on site dialysis unit (with 13 stations) on behalf of Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust (CUH) and work closely with the CUH Nephrology team.

Acute admissions are assessed on a 22 Bedded Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), or in the Accident and Emergency Department. The AAU is staffed by its own team of consultants and junior staff who provide early senior clinical assessment of patients with high rates of same-day discharge. The AAU team runs the take from 8am until 9pm, and provides on-going care to patients on AAU. There is a multi-disciplinary early intervention team to support same or next-day discharge for appropriate patients, and a 12 bedded ambulatory area SDEC.

Evidence of completion of CT/ST1 or equivalent competences in medicine at time of application, and CT/ST2 competences in medicine by time of appointment, supported by evidence from work-based assessments of clinical performance and Multisource Feedback (DOPS, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) or equivalent. Previous clinical experience in Nephrology
