Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Physiotherapist to rotate between a range of clinical areas at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, including medical and clinical oncology, haematology and CAR-T, Proton therapy and Teenage and Young Adult Oncology. The post holder will rotate between both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as inputting into specialist clinics.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for a clinical caseload and use their strong clinical reasoning skills to develop and provide individualised programmes of care. They will also coordinate, supervise and support Band 5 Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants, and students working across these areas. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to service develop with the support of their supervising band 7 lead.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide advice, education and training within the Rehabilitation Department and the wider Trust. This includes supporting staff development, clinical teaching of staff and undergraduates who are on placement. They will also be involved with service development and improvement therefore it is essential that they are proactive and forward-thinking.
Main duties of the job
The Band 6 Physiotherapist will provide a high-quality efficient Physiotherapy service on a rotational basis to the clinical and medical oncology service, haematology oncology service, proton and teenage and young adult service within the Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
They will provide supervision and education to junior staff and students and will contribute to delivering in-service training to the wider rehabilitation team.
They will assist with the promotion and development of the Physiotherapy service. They will be required to work flexibly and contribute to the emergency on-call service, which includes evening and weekend working.

CLINICAL
To ensure the effective delivery of physiotherapy treatment to a specified patient population within the hospital, using advanced clinical reasoning skills to develop and provide individualised programmes of care To provide physiotherapy treatment to medical/clinical oncology, haematological and proton patients on a clinical rotational basis. Caseload management may also extend into Outpatient clinics such as CAR-T and Proton Beam. Duties will also include management of surgical, teenage and young adults and critical care patients as required for cross-cover and on-call/weekend working. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients. To be responsible for the educational support and supervision of student physiotherapists. To be responsible in educating, supporting and supervising junior and non qualified staff working within the same clinical team or area. To be responsible for the line management of Junior/non-qualified staff. To provide specialist physiotherapy advice and input at Multidisciplinary Team meetings, clinics and case conferences. To use advanced communication skills when providing and receiving all patient related information. To assess patients for specialist equipment for manual handling, stabilisation and mobility purposes including standard orthotic provision To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all physiotherapy equipment and ensure that junior staff, assistants, physiotherapy students, carers and other health care professionals attain competency prior to use. To assist the physiotherapy provision and management in other areas of the hospital including outpatient and clinic settings during periods of staff absence. To be an active member of the weekend and out of hours on-call service. To supply and fit patients with suspected/actual Spinal Cord compression and/or spinal fractures with appropriate orthotic collars and standard spinal braces. To provide appropriate levels of care to the patient in the management of orthotic devices provided, when patients or other care staff are unable to facilitate this themselves. To provide appropriate education to patients, staff, family and carers in the competent management and safe use of orthotic devices provided. To produce timely and informative reports, continuing health care assessments and discharge summaries for other agencies, , consultants, social services and primary care colleagues to ensure effective and seamless pathways of care.PROFESSIONAL

To undertake the measurement and evaluation of clinical practice through the use of evidence-based practice projects and audits, and to initiate and implement changes to working practice and policies where this will result in improved performance/patient care across the organisation. To participate in audit and research into specific areas of clinical practice for the benefit of the service. To demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management. To provide a physiotherapy contribution into multidisciplinary service delivery and policy projects within the trust ( implementation of relevant guidance documents) To raise awareness of the role of the physiotherapist in oncology and palliative care.ORGANISATIONAL

To prioritise workload, balancing patient related and professional demands and ensure that these remain in accordance with the department as a whole. Post registration experience of working as a junior physiotherapist in a broad rotational post.
