Job overview

This post will be responsible for the MTW data submission to National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR) run by NHS England and producing reports on NMTR on a monthly basis.

This requires good communication skills to build working relationships as well as analytical and data management skills.

Main duties of the job

Analyse and interpret information on the trauma board and from clinical coding data reports to identify potential NMTR patients.

Confirm injury severity meets NMTR criteria from assessment of medical imaging reports, operation records and discharge notifications.

Extract the relevant information for a NMTR submission from a detailed review of the patient’s healthcare record plus using electronic information held on Trust systems e.g. Sunrise.

Liaise with other hospital trusts to identify patients who have been transferred in or out of MTW meeting NMTR criteria.

Liaise with the Coroner’s Office regarding post mortem reports for NMTR cases.

Ensure the quality, accuracy and timely submission of information to NMTR including the rehabilitation prescriptions.

Review and analyse the 3-monthly NMTR dashboards for MTW, amend where applicable and report findings internally.

Provide monthly reports on NMTR data for directorate clinical governance sessions.

Attend and present at monthly clinical governance meetings.

Provide evidence for the annual Trauma Unit Review by the external review board.

Provide reports on patients with injury severity scores over 15.

Provide updates on achievement of best practice for NMTR including performance benchmarking and identification of areas requiring improvement.

Annual analysis of HES (coding) data report identifying trauma patients whose codes injuries meet NMTR criteria and who have not already been identified by other methods.

Undertake data validation, investigating any data quality issues and / or system failures. Ensure that concerns are escalated to line manager.

Represent MTW at local and national NMTR network meetings and / or conferences.
