Lead English Teacher – Special Educational Needs School
Location: Midge Hall, near Leyland, Lancashire
Salary: M1 - UPS2 plus an additional expert payment of £1,500 per annum.
Hours: 40 hours per week, Term Time Only
An independent day school in Lancashire, specialising in education for children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH), is seeking a Lead English Teacher. This role involves coordinating and enhancing the English curriculum, literacy, phonics, and Careers Education Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG) across the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and organise the English curriculum throughout the school.
- Manage and assess progress in English, literacy, and phonics.
- Oversee and track literacy and phonics interventions.
- Develop English as a key subject, driving improved progress and outcomes for pupils.
- Provide training and updates to staff as needed.
- Report on progress and teaching quality to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Act as Careers Officer, ensuring alignment with the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Qualifications Required:
- PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Knowledge and experience working with pupils who have SEN, SLD/PMLD, or ASD.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Experience managing challenging behaviours and a range of therapeutic approaches.

- Experience delivering a differentiated curriculum for a variety of educational needs.
- Previous work experience in a therapeutic or SEN-focused environment.
