Job summary
The Department of Gastroenterology is seeking a full-time (10 PA) Consultant Gastroenterologist with interest in artificial nutrition who will help us to meet the challenges of our expanding clinical, academic and training portfolio and to keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. Experience in an intestinal failure unit would be an advantage.
The Department, as part of Kings Health Partners, offers a wide range of services to patients with gastroenterological and liver disorders, including endoscopic ultrasound, tertiary interventional endoscopy, pancreato-biliary procedures, oesophageal pathophysiology, enteral/parenteral nutrition, inflammatory bowel disease and hepatology services.
The demand for the artificial nutrition service at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital is fast growing. The consultant currently leading the nutrition team is supported by three nutrition nurse specialists, two dietitians and a specialist pharmacist. Two dedicated colorectal/intestinal failure surgeons complete the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high quality clinical and academic service for outpatients and inpatients as well as other departments looking after patients in need of artificial nutrition. We additionally function as part of the Central London Intestinal Partnership alongside UCLH and Royal London as an accredited Intestinal Failure Unit.
Main duties of the job
Key roles include
Participating in both out-patient and in-patient gastroenterology and endoscopy service activity.
To work within, and help develop, a large, expert and effective multidisciplinary team at GSTT and within CLIP.
To design and implement novel pathways for the management of emergency patients with nutrition problems, in order to avoid unnecessary admissions and minimise inpatient stay
To play a significant role in the continuous improvement of the service and offer excellent care to the growing number of parenteral nutrition patients.
To collaborate with other members of Kings Health Partners
To contribute to a culture of research and development.
Provide High Quality Care to Patients
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practise
To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

Your job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average, to be carried out at Guys & St Thomas sites. Of these PAs, will be Direct and Supporting. The post holder is also expected to participate in the routine Saturday endoscopy rota (currently six- eight Saturdays per year) and the on-call rota.
This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Director within 3 months of your start date
