Head of Communications and Public Affairs

Swaffham, United Kingdom Norfolk County Council Full time

Head of Communications and Public Affairs

Salary: Up to £81,981 plus excellent pension and relocation package

Working at the heart of Norfolk County Council, this is a superb career opportunity for a politically astute communications expert with a demonstrable track record of success in complex political environments and senior level experience across all aspects of communications. Norfolk County Council is on the cusp of implementing its devolution deal with government, which will open up significant opportunities for our residents and place us in a high-profile role nationally.

Leading our award-winning communications team, you’ll bring a blend of strategic oversight, creative flair, and exceptional relationship management skills to this pivotal role. We’ll expect you to provide the professional and technical expertise necessary to position us as the voice of Norfolk. You’ll ensure we inform, involve, and engage people and stakeholders well, across our communities, partner organisations and internally with our council colleagues.

We need a leader who shares our values. You’ll be the senior professional adviser to our Political Leadership, Chief Executive and our executive leadership team and your strong ambassadorial qualities will secure your credibility with them and others. You will cultivate and strengthen relationships within the team as well as with stakeholders, inspiring them and taking them with you when shaping and delivering our strategies.

Able to be proactive and reactive, you will need to take forward a new council wide comms strategy and bring momentum to plans already in action, aligning comms as a 'whole' council function.

If you believe you have the expertise, vision and energy we are looking for, we’d like to hear from you. Please visit www.norfolk.gov.uk/seniorvacancies for further details including job description, terms and conditions and how to apply.

For an informal confidential discussion, please contact Emma Croll or Grace Morton at executiverecruitment@norfolk.gov.uk
