Operations Supervisor

**Job Overview**
Your role is to supervise, organise, motivate and direct a team of Grounds Maintenance Operatives under the direction of the Managing Director. Ensuring the team are carrying out their duties in a professional and effective manner, you will plan, prioritise and allocate work to ensure that safe and efficient provision is made for all Works Contracts, Landscaping Projects, Fuel Deliveries and Ad-hoc Projects as required. You will assist the Managing Director and help facilitate the continual growth and expansion of the business, whist carrying out the following duties.
**Supervisory Responsibilities**:
- Leading, motivating and oversight of all grounds maintenance contracts, landscaping, deliveries; and associated tasks, whilst following a planned schedule of works;
- Adhering to Policies & Procedures and ensuring team members are following these at all times;
- To observe all health and safety rules and take all reasonable care to promote the health and safety at work for others;
- Raising issues with MD/Head Office maintaining clear and transparent working practices;
- Using your excellent People Management skills, to guide Teams and educate them accordingly on roles and responsibilities;
- Leading your team and managing all people aspects, such as absence management, resource planning, performance management, investigations, disciplinaries, etc. in conjunction with the Company HR department, resolving or escalating any non-conformances in a timely manner;
- To liaise with the Office Administrator to ensure all of the below mentioned records are kept up-to-date, and that open lines of communication are maintained to ensure good working practices:
- Overseeing the effective operation of delivery of firewood, coal and nursery stock in communication with Head Office;
- Maintaining and co-ordinating the daily completion of the Grounds Maintenance Works Schedule and ensuring this is provided to the Office at the end of each week;
- Co-ordinating the completion of Vehicle Checklists and Spray List Forms and ensuring these are provided to the office at the end of each week;
- Overseeing the nominated person responsible for the maintenance of First Aid kits in both the vans and at the yard;
- Ensure that there are always sufficient spill kits available in all vehicles and advising the office should more supplies be required;
- Ensure the yard and it’s building are kept tidy and safe at all times;
- Maintain the accident reporting book as necessary and ensure the office is kept updated;
- To ensure you conduct yourself in a calm and courteous manner whilst dealing with customers and team members.
- Acting as an Ambassador for the Company and supporting the MD as needed;
- Actively grow yourself as a person to enable career progression with the Company;
- Actively look to grow the Team to incorporate further departments (eg Tree Surgery) and additional members;
- Actively look to develop other Team members with potential for growth;
- Any other ad hoc duty as deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running of the yard operations, on-site operations and further the progression of the Company;
**General Grounds Maintenance**:
- Hands-on Supervision of all Grounds Maintenance Works Contracts;
- Operating and maintaining machinery including ride-on and pedestrian mowers;
- Maintaining, checking, operating and cleaning company vehicle fleet;
- Grass cutting; Strimming; Weed killing; Hedge trimming; Pruning and tree works;
- Landscaping works including fencing, turfing, digging, seeding and planting;
- Cutting firewood and bagging coal;
- To drive in a correct and professional manner in line with site rules and HSE requirements and treat all vehicles with respect;
- To drive any vehicles as required for which you are licenced to drive;
- All of the above, whilst supervising and directing the Team;
**Required Qualities**
- Strong People Management skills;
- Experience of supervising;
- Firm but fair approach;
- Flexible and able to show initiative;
- Strong communication skills required;
- Able to cope well under pressure whilst ensuring attention to detail;
- Able to demonstrate good time management with the ability to prioritise the workload and work to deadlines;
- Ability to forward plan and effectively communicate instructions;
- Ability to communicate at all levels ie, Team, Head Office, Customers;
- Confident in leading a Team of varying characters;
- Confident in putting forward ideas to further the vision of the MD & the company’s aims for growth;
- Confident in dealing with the administrative tasks as well as physical works;
**Qualifications**
- A clean and valid full UK driving license (required)
- CSCS Card (required)
- Certificates for: Excavator; Brushcutters/Trimmers; Pedestrian Mowers; Woodchippers; Chainsaw Operation; Ride on Mowers; Trailers
- PA1/PA6 Spraying Qualification
- First Aid Certificate
- ROLO Health & Safety Awareness
- Leadership experience
