An exciting opportunity has arisen within the maternity service at Oxford University Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust for an exceptional, committed and motivated midwife for the role of Antenatal Midwifery Ward Manager.

 The individual must have a strong commitment to midwifery practice, safety and have excellent organisational, analytical and leadership skills. Liaison with the Senior Midwifery team and the Consultant Obstetricians is key and as such the successful applicant must be a team player and have excellent communication skills. Other key relationships are the Delivery Suite coordinators, Practice Development midwives, Clinical Governance team, and groups representing women’s views.

The successful midwife will be part of the hospital Band team; this will include participation in the operational bleep holder rota and Manager on call rota.

Main duties of the job

The Antenatal Ward manager has continuing responsibility, while on duty, to manage the antenatal maternity ward. This includes the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards. They will facilitate innovative and evidence-based midwifery practice through professional leadership and support of the clinical team.

They will:

have managerial responsibility for a group of staff working within their practice area act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower staff to develop personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to care report directly to and develop close working relationships with the Maternity Leadership Team on operational and general management issues and clinical issues relevant to their practice area liaise with members of the Oxford Brookes University Midwifery Education and OUH Practice Development Team to develop an effective learning environment for students assist the Director of Midwifery / Matron in achieving the strategic objectives for the Maternity service represent the maternity services / OUH NHS Trust on internal/external working groups as needed Working for our organisation
