Experience

Essential criteria

Independent assessment, management, therapeutic intervention and discharge of patients with Voice and ENT related communication disorders. Providing carer support in healthcare settings Working with an adult caseload, assessing and treating patients with a variety of aetiologies Dealing appropriately with difficult situations Teaching and educating patients, relatives, carers & staff

Desirable criteria

Experience of working as an SLT in an acute hospital setting Supervision of students and junior staff Experience of running groups

Technical Skills

Essential criteria

Skills to assess, manage & treat conditions and patients with complex multi pathologies at specialist level Skills in assessment and support of alternative and augmentative communication aids Skills to produce clear written documentation of intervention & reports Skills to independently prioritise clinical and nonclinical workload

Desirable criteria

Skills to teach & supervise staff & assistants Evidence of participation in the audit process Evidence of participation in Quality Improvement projects

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Ability to critique evidence base and apply to clinical practice Understanding of Clinical Governance and its relevance to clinical situations Understanding of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidance and National strategy documents Knowledge of pathways for patients with Voice and ENT related communication disorders.

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of the role of specialist clinics in the diagnosis and treatment of Voice and ENT related disorders.

Excellent, effective and adaptable verbal & written communication skills Working effectively in a team Able to work flexibly and under pressure

Qualifications

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent HCPC registration Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Evidence of a range of CPD activities relevant to role including membership of CEN groups.

Attendance at post-qualification courses in Voice / ENT
