Public Health Communication Hub Nurse

Job summary
The Public Health Communication Hub Nurse will receive calls as part of the public health support programme. They will be responsible for giving specialist clinical advice to patients, staff and clinical teams without direct supervision, ensuring they receive information on how they can optimize their vaccination and health decisions. This will be based upon evidence-based practice in line with legal requirements, statutory rules, Health Board policies and the NMC code of conduct.
Reporting directly to the Lead Nurse, the post holder will give expert advice and support to all patients. Working with the wider multi-disciplinary team for each service the post holder will ensure patients receive safe, individualised and effective standards of treatment, advice, guidance and information.
The post holder will have experience of working autonomously and within a team. The ability to adapt and take a dynamic approach is essential for this role. The post holder will ensure they are giving evidence-based advice and following the latest guidance for individual specialties and services. Individuals will be expected to handle a variety of calls, dealing with and resolving all queries in an efficient and effective manner, escalating when appropriate to do so. Deal effectively with any enquiries whilst ensuring confidentiality.
Main duties of the job
To ensure all calls are dealt with promptly and in a proficient and professional manner, in accordance with agreed operational policies and procedures associated with the Public Health support programme.
Logging on the SharePoint system those that require specialist advice if unable to deal with at the time.
Use the most up to date script, evidence base and guidance to ensure consistency of communication using clinical judgement when necessary.
Provide clinical advice based on the concern or query raised by the calls. Escalating those that they are not able to deal with appropriately and efficiently.
Support a triage service, and co-ordinate timely treatment plans for any referrals regarding Covid antiviral treatment.
Operates available systems such as SharePoint and Netcall, including "queue buster" effectively ensuring agreed processes are followed at all times.
Demonstrate and ensure patients' needs are fully met following their call.
Alert appropriate agencies when there are any concerns regarding potential/actual risk to a patient child protection, domestic violence and protection of vulnerable adults.
Ensures confidentiality is maintained at all times following agreed Health Board policies and procedures at all times.
Supports and assists with the introduction of new staff by providing support training.
