London, United Kingdom Somerset House Trust Full time
DescriptionSomerset House is looking for a project manager with a strong eye for design who can successfully oversee and deliver a number of small interior design projects across our Grade 1 listed site, mostly connected to improving our creative workspaces.

Most of the building, outside of ground floor public areas, is used as workspace and offices for businesses and charities from across the creative industries (known as residents).  We wish to improve these and have commissioned an architect to develop some interior designs (non-structural) for some of the communal spaces shared by our creative residents.  These spaces will be upgraded through a design scheme (colour palettes and furniture) which will represent the Home of Cultural Innovators while remaining sympathetic to the building’s heritage.  Spaces will be inspirational, helping fuel the creativity and collaboration at the heart of our community.  We also plan to upgrade several meeting spaces, improving technology, functionality and aesthetics.  We will also shortly start work on improvements to Seamen’s Hall, enhancing the ambience, appearance and functionality of a key public space at the heart of Somerset House. We are looking for a project manager who can successfully oversee and deliver the different strands of this project helping us reimagine and redefine our spaces through a primarily cosmetic refurbishment, including furniture and equipment sourcing and selection (some bespoke elements) while providing tight budget, schedule and contractor management. They will be able to influence and manage the design process, ensuring it is appealing, practical and appropriate to our Grade 1 listing, ensuring that the delivery and installation are well managed and that internal stakeholders are engaged throughout.  Experience of working on spaces for creatives and a sustainable design ethos would be ideal. Project Timeline

The project focusses on 3 main areas which will have different delivery timeframes and levels of activity. The project timeline is approximately 6-8 months pending design and delivery schedules. Day rate of £250, number of days per week flexible according to project needs.

Key Responsibilities· Lead the project delivery of resident improvements project, and Seamen’s Hall at Somerset House, ensuring the project goals are delivered on time and in budget. · Draft clear and detailed design briefs for resident and public spaces which can be passed on to designers and vendors and manage selection process.· Ensure design and selections are appropriate to a Grade 1 listed building, achievable, durable, easily and affordably maintainable, and of high quality.· Be the primary point of contact and co-ordination between designers, architects, contractors, suppliers and Somerset House.· Source technological and functional enhancements for spaces, liaising with key Somerset House teams and contractors to ensure installation is smooth and facilities are optimised. · Work closely with the Residents, Estates, IT and internal stakeholders to create, review and deliver an overall project plan with clear approval points and deadlines. The schedule will include room by room and floor by floor installation plans for each project.  Considerations include, but are not limited to, any M&E design (should be relatively small), statutory compliance, delivery lead times, site wide programming, and agreed budgets.· Create and maintain the project budgets
· Provide regular status and progress reports to Head of Residents & Retail and Head of Estates.· Co-ordinate and be the primary contact for all site activity, including deliveries and contractor management, ensuring that deliveries and contractors follow all necessary Somerset House protocols (such as booking in vehicles with our security team and ensuring the building is protected during deliveries).· Respond to any queries, including from suppliers and designers, which arise, and problem solve where required.· Ensure all works are carried out to a high standard, by accredited suppliers, and adhere to all H&S measures in line with Somerset House’s safe working policy.· Undertake other duties that may be asked of you from time to time.

Experience
· Excellent project management experience, ideally in Grade 1 Listed interiors· Influencing and managing multiple stakeholders for complex design projects· Project and operational budgeting and financial reporting· Operationalising interior design works in a commercial setting
