Job summary

On behalf of the North-west Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NWNODN) ELHT is looking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Neonatal Medical Education fellow to join the team for a 12 month period.

As Medical Education fellow, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic Network the expectation is to largely work remotely for the northwest neonatal operational delivery network education team. Though primarily based at Lancashire Women's and Newborn's, there will be an expectation to travel to other neonatal sites within the network for educational purposes.

The post-holder will work closely with the NWNODN medical education lead Dr Amitava Sur - Consultant Neonatologist who is based at East Lancashire Hospital Trust (ELHT). They will support the strategic and operational delivery of the NWNODN education strategy over a fixed term period of one year.

It is expected that the successful candidate will focus on one specific area of education and improvement during this one-year period based on the educational needs identified in the network, besides being involved in other educational activities. This will be broadly around "Operational challenges in implementation of the BAPM Neonatal Airway Safety Standard Framework in the network and developing educational material to enable it".

The candidate will be expected to develop this idea into a framework of audit/survey, gap analysis and development of educational packages working within the education team.

Main duties of the job

This will be a non- clinical post; the successful candidate will not be expected to be involved in any clinical responsibilities of the department within working hours. As such there will be no out of hour supplements.

The post is not recognised for training however would be suitable for a trainee applying for Out- of-Programme for Education Experience or a post-CCT trainee wanting to improve educational portfolio.

The trainee will need to apply for approval for OOP(R)/OOP(E) from their Postgraduate Dean.

Key aspects of this role will be to : -

Gathering intelligence through surveys or audits around current practices around airway management in the neonate and education around it. Assist in revising and updating existing educational materials within the network. Collaborate with educators and faculty across network hospitals to ensure consistent and high-quality education. Develop and deliver educational content, including lectures, workshops, and online modules. Utilise various learning platforms and technologies to facilitate effective education delivery. Assimilate the results of the work done around the specific identified area in a final report aimed at scholarly publication and conference abstract. The candidate will be also encouraged and supported to gain academic certification or educational CPD from an university through this work. Act as an ambassador for the ODN at a national regional and local level

About us

The Network The North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NWNODN) works in partnership with families and healthcare professionals delivering neonatal care across the vast geographical area of north west, helping each clinical setting to achieve the highest standard of care possible.

Each year over 8,000 babies are admitted to one of the twenty-two neonatal units within the NWNODN, which include two neonatal surgical centres and two cardiac centres, all served by a dedicated 24/7 neonatal transport team Connect North West.

Network education strategy and team The successful appointee will work within a motivated education and workforce team. Currently the education team consists of a medical education lead, lead nurse for education and workforce and senior educator. The team are in the process of developing the educational strategy for the NWODN in the coming year which will be aligned with the network's vision of "delivering highly skilled multi-disciplinary teams delivering safe and effective neonatal care" achieved through 3 core elements of Developing the Ideal Team, Supporting career pathways, and Providing safe, effective services.

Develop and evaluate learning resources relevant to Neonatology using the appropriate pedagogical principles for the target recipients

Gain an understanding of simulation, including human factors, as an educational modality and be able to develop and run MDT simulation training sessions, teaching days

Complete an educational qualification at the level of certificate or above (optional/ being explored)

Develop a good understand of patient pathways and clinical governance according to NWODN guidelines.

Develop an understanding of key implementation programmes relevant to neonatology under NHS frameworks

Develop a good understanding of improvement methodology

To foster a culture of multi-professional engagement in Education. This will include collaborating and engaging with clinical colleagues to deliver ambitious programmes of education and quality improvement.
