We are currently in progress with a variety of ongoing exciting quality improvement projects in line with the Maternity transformation programme.

Education and training is a fundamental element of this post and the post will include creating learning opportunities, maintaining communication between multi disciplinary teams, developing collaborative relationships and delivering set objectives. The post holder will be a highly visible within the clinical areas providing professional leadership for safe and effective care, alongside expert clinical knowledge and practice with the multi-disciplinary team. The culture of continuous learning associated with measurement for improvement will provide assurance that all staff are competent to provide safe care.

Within Maternity services, an exciting opportunity for a Training and Development Specialist Midwife has arisen, to work alongside the existing maternity training team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed Midwife with strong clinical leadership and facilitation skills.

The maternity training team provide a high quality training and development service across the entire maternity workforce supporting all staff with learning and enhancing skills. As a small team, we pride ourselves on being supportive, approachable and knowledgeable in order to deliver a robust and ever changing education programme across maternity services at ELHT. We work across all ELHT hospital sites and deliver training in a variety of settings and methods from face to face to virtual and e-learning.

This post is 37.5 hours per week, permanent post.
- To have a daily visibility in clinical areas providing direct support, supervision and guidance with clinical care for all maternity staff.
- Undertake practice based education and training for staff within maternity services; taking a lead on PROMPT training, skills drills and working closely with senior midwifery and medical staff.
- Lead on the development and delivery of clinical skills educational programmes to ensure that mothers and infants are cared for by staff with appropriate knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective care. These programmes will take into account maternity national services framework, undergraduate agendas, service needs and professional development needs.
- Working in collaboration with the wider education teams, participate and oversee the facilitation and completion of mandatory training of staff pertinent to the midwifery service. This will include ownership of a helicopter view with the preceptorship midwives.
- Lead the preceptorship programme, ensuring band 5 study days are adapted to reflect local and national requirements.
- Lead on the training, supervision, development & assessment (where applicable) of staff & students working within maternity. This includes the development of a wide range of clinical skills pertinent to individual’s clinical roles.
- Organisation, development and the delivery of mandatory and in-service training.
- Promote woman/person centred care with an emphasis on normality, providing advice and support to the multidisciplinary team.
- Complete appraisals for the band 5/ 6 midwives where appropriate.
- Lead on the band 5 rotation to ensure adequate skillset and development needs are met.
- Evaluate and produce reports as required on training data, providing a clear overview of training compliance to divisional and trust board level.
- Work in collaboration with the Quality & Safety Teams and ensure training is up to date, responsive and supports risk reduction and safe practice.
- Be responsible for writing and maintaining training policies in line with wider trust policies ensuring these are relevant and up to date.
- Work in collaboration with the wider Local Maternity & Neonatal System [LMNS] to ensure national training requirements and standardisation of training are met at LMNS level.
