Job summary
Due to retirement an opportunity is available to join Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust as a member of the Chief Nurse's senior leadership team in the full time role of Lead for Suicide Prevention & Clinical Risk.
Under the leadership of the Chief Nurse and Chief Medical Officer the Lead for Suicide Prevention & Clinical Risk will co-ordinate and lead Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust approach to suicide prevention and clinical risk assessment and management at both strategic and clinical levels across the trust.
Main duties of the job
The role involves embedding suicide prevention principles across clinical pathways, in service developments and strategic decisions across the Trust, and collaborating with partners at local, regional, and national levels and will be highly visible and accessible to support teams and services.
Experience and expert knowledge of risk assessment, management and safety planning is required to oversee continuous development of the trust Clinical Risk Assessment and Management training to align with evidence based practice, NICE guidance, and national developments in this area. The role will be able to provide expert advice and guidance on this subject as required by a variety of stakeholders.
Working closely with patients, families, carers and Experts by Experience the role will lead the Family Liaison Team to provide support to those bereaved by suicide and non-fatal incidents and also work in partnership to learn from lived experience to contribute to the trust approach of continuous development and improvement in these areas.
Act as an ambassador for the trust to connect with multiple stakeholders in a variety of clinical and corporate settings supporting development of a strategic approach to suicide prevention that encompasses and supports the organisation in a whole system approach. As an ambassador for the trust the role will be well connected both locally, nationally, and globally to contribute to and learn from research and developments in these areas.

Job responsibilities
Act as the Lead for Suicide Prevention & Clinical Risk providing expert leadership, advice and support to multidisciplinary teams, patients and carers across directorates.
A key member of the Suicide Prevention steering group to develop and co-ordinate implementation of the Trust approach to the reduction and harm minimisation of self-harm and suicide prevention at clinical, operational, and strategic levels
Act as an ambassador for the Trust in local, regional, and national suicide prevention activity linking with the BOB ICB, Local Authoritys Public Health Teams, NHS England, the Voluntary Sector and Patient and Carer agencies in order to progress a community approach to suicide prevention
Provide trust wide clinical leadership and expertise in the area of Clinical Risk Assessment and Management working with Learning & Development to continuously review and develop the trust training offer in line with evidence based practice and emerging developments in these area.
To participate in clinical practice to ensure compliance with requirements in keeping with professional regulatory bodies and to maintain contemporaneous clinical skills and experience.
To report on activity and performance relating to clinical risk assessment and management and suicide prevention- both internally within the Trust, and externally, providing an annual report to the trust Board.
Work in co-production with staff, patients and families to learn from lived experience to translate to the development of trust training in these areas.
Provide staff support and facilitate learning reviews following suicides and near lethal incidents.
Contribute to the development of Trauma Risk Management (TriM) model used within the trust.
To lead the Family Liaison Team supporting families and carers and those bereaved by suicide and/or affected significant incidents of self-harm.
Lead and participate in clinical research, practice development and quality improvement activities and contribute to the advancement of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHPs) research.
Have a close link with University of Oxfords Centre for Suicide Research, hosted by the Department of Psychiatry and OHFT.
Provide expert advice, training, and consultation across the Trust, both at strategic and clinical levels in relation to suicide prevention and self-harm.
To work in partnership with patient safety colleagues to develop effective mechanisms to learn key lessons from suicide-related deaths and significant incidents of self-harm.
Lead on the development of suicide prevention and risk reduction training across OHFT ensuring tailored approaches to suit the diverse range of disciplines and specialities.
Facilitate the development of teaching skills of clinical staff through supervision and coaching activity in order to establish a critical mass of trainers to support university, trust and team based teaching and learning
Actively promote a supportive learning culture through clinical supervision, reflective practice, and coaching.
Work with relevant clinical, estates and health and safety leads to ensure trust premises are as safe as possible for patients and staff
