Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen in both General and Orthopaedic Preoperative Assessment for motivated, enthusiastic and experienced practitioners to join our team. We are looking for dynamic and aspiring leaders with a specialist interest in the pathway to Elective Surgery.
Preoperative Assessment (POA) is an evolving and developing service supported by the GIRFT recommendations which aim to improve outcomes and quality of care in the elective pathway. This specifically includes the introduction of early screening, risk assessment and health optimisation of patients awaiting surgery.
We are currently implementing Quality Improvement projects within POA in line with National Directives such as waiting well, pre habilitation and a newly developed digital pre assessment system (DPOA).
POA offers a professional and dynamic work environment, witha strong culture of teamwork. The service covers a wide variety of surgical specialties for both day case and in-patient admission pathways. We are looking for individuals with a specialist interest in either Orthopaedics or General Surgery. General Surgery includes specialities such as Colorectal, Breast, Upper GI, Vascular, Gynaecology, Urology, Plastics, ENT, OMF.
Main duties of the job
This role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Nurse in elective surgery or Orthopaedics looking to take on a new challenge. As a POA Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that patients attending the hospital for Preoperative Assessment receive a comprehensive and quality service. Preoperative Assessment plays a crucial role in ensuring patients are thoroughly prepared for surgery. Working within the POA team provides an invaluable opportunity to contribute greatly to ensuring optimal surgical outcomes and improve patient satisfaction.
You will work with the Clinical Lead to support the POA team. You will gain knowledge and experience in advising others on the management of Preoperative care, ensuring agreed POA protocols are adhered to and supporting the team with any troubleshooting needs, maintaining professional and leadership approaches through the challenges faced in each patient and staff group. In addition, opportunity is available for operational problem solving skills to be enhanced to embrace the ability to deal positively with difficult matters and difficult situations that can arise.
