Job summary

Tollerton Surgery is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated experienced Registered Nursing Associate or Healthcare Assistant to work as part of the multidisciplinary team working with the practice and PCN teams.

They will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education whilst also supporting the administrative team on an as required basis.

Main duties of the job

To assist and perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care, such as routine BP checks, ECG, suture and clip removal, BMI and lifestyle advice, as directed and agreed with line manager, registered general nurses and GPs.

To support patients to improve and maintain their mental, physical, behavioural health and wellbeing by using behaviour change interventions, such as undertaking health checks (physical and mental), smoking cessation services etc.

To provide flu vaccinations, venepuncture and other relevant clinical tasks as required by the organisation in line with the competencies of the role.

To act as a chaperone.

Job responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the nursing associate. There may be,on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependentupon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a.Beresponsible for delivering high quality, patient-centred, compassionate careunder the leadership and direction of a practice nurse (or other registeredcare professional dependent on setting)

b.Toprovide high-quality holistic and person-centred care to individuals

c.Toprovide routine care to patients as required in accordance with clinical basedevidence, NICE and the NSF

d.Toprovide wound care, dressings (ulcer/Doppler etc) and other clinical tasks asrequired

e.Tosupport and deliver health promotion and well-being programmes including anyopportunistic delivery

f.Tomaintain chronic disease registers and support clinics to promote patientsafety whilst maximising QOF

g.Tosupport the practice nurse, implement and evaluate individual treatment plansfor chronic disease patients

h.Tosupport both well woman and well man clinics

i.Tomaintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation

k.Toprocess pathology results as required

l.Tosupport vaccination programmes for adults and children

m.Tosupport the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance withlocal and national policies

n.Tosupport patients in the use of their prescribed medicines or over the countermedicines (within own scope of practice)

o.Toperform clinical and record clinical observations such as blood pressure,temperature, respirations and pulse

p. To provide flu vaccinations, ECGs and venepuncture and other relevantclinical tasks as required by the organisation in line with the competencies ofthe role

a.Tosupport the team in dealing with clinical emergencies

b.Toprovide support during minor operations as required

c.Toact as a chaperone

d.Toensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

e.Tosupport IPC processes in accordance with the practice IPC Policy

f.Toliaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supportedappropriately (vulnerable patients etc.)

g.Tounderstand practice and departmental policies

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

GCSE grade A-C in Maths and English or skills level 2 Maths and English or equivalent. Registered Nursing Associate and on the NMC register Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification Or Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level

Desirable

Phlebotomy certification Vaccination certification

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in a healthcare setting Experience of working with the general public

Experience of working in a primary care environment

Competent in common primary care nursing procedures such as:- ECGs Venepuncture New patient medicals including height, weigh, BP and pulse Chaperone procedure Wound care, removal of sutures and staples Understand the importance of following procedures and treatment plans Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information Ability to record accurate clinical notes
