Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the small but highly skilled GI Physiology Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.

As a clinical physiologist/healthcare scientist you will be required to perform highly complex, specialised diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including invasive intubation techniques.

You will be working within a small team to deliver upper GI investigations including, high resolution oesophageal manometry, 24-hour pH studies, hydrogen and methane breath testing and urea breath tests. You will undertake the interpretation of results, provision of reports and advice to patients.

You will partake in meetings with other healthcare professionals working collaboratively and co-operatively on a day-to-day basis with others to ensure that the service needs are met.

As you will be working within a small team you will be at times required to contribute to the day-to-day running of the department in the absence of the Service Manager.

Clinical Continually monitor and maintain high professional standards. Work according to relevant professional standards and guidelines. Have accreditation or be eligible for accreditation (if not already) for Association of GI Physiologists (AGIP). Have membership for the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) or equivalent. Prioritise, plan, perform and interpret a range of Gastrointestinal Physiological investigations. Have an empathetic and reassuring manner to gain patient consent and support patients during uncomfortable and sometimes daunting investigations. Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure services meet changing healthcare needs. Undertake simple fault remedies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and ensure these are in good working order, reporting faults to the Service Manager where necessary. Provide support and assistance to other staff members when dealing with difficult and conflicting situations

About us

Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was established on December 1, 2007 under the National Health Service (NHS) Act 2006. In October 2010, the Trust was awarded Teaching Hospitals status and changed its named to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in recognition of this. Support the Service Manager in planning and implementation of policies, audit, patient information and research and development programs. Provide statistical information as required. Deputise for the Service Manager at meetings as and when required.

Education, Training and Development

Provide support and mentorship to junior members of staff. Participate in teaching to a broad range of healthcare professionals, including medical, nursing, and other allied health professionals. Ensure personal compliance with regards to mandatory, professional, and personal development, according to service needs. Ensure personal compliance with CPD guidelines, professional codes of conduct and evaluate the effect of development on service delivery.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

BSc Clinical Physiology (Gastro-intestinal) or equivalent Membership of the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) or equivalent Membership of Association of Gastrointestinal Physiologists (or eligibility for) Able to demonstrate knowledge of specialist and advanced procedures acquired through training and specialist courses in GI Physiology. Competent in Microsoft Office products Recent experience of and competency in the range of basic and complex invasive clinical investigations in GI Physiology (including, but not limited to high resolution oesophageal manometry, 24-hour pH studies, hydrogen and methane breath testing, urea breath test) Evidence of 4 years CPD Evidence of handling patient referrals and determining priorities and managing own workload. Creative and innovative approach to all aspects of work with a 'can-do' attitude Be able to lift equipment with a weight of up to 15kg and to move wheeled equipment up to 80kg. Able to position patients as required. Receptive to change and able to devise and implement new working methods Having integrity, being conscientious and willing to work flexibly.
