Job summary

Do you want to be an integral part of the physical health team with the focus on resuscitation training to ensure that our clinical colleagues have the confidence and skills to deliver effective resuscitative care if the need arises?

The successful candidate will work alongside the Resuscitation Officer and will be a valued member of the Physical Health & IPC Team provide engaging and effective Level 2 basic life support training to Trust clinicians from both inpatient and community services. With the intention to eventually deliver level 3 medical emergency training (MET),

Primarly this is a training role and to ensure learning is embedded. The successful candidate will conduct unannounced CPR simulations on our 24 inpatient wards to assess staff delivering effective CPR in their clinical environments in a realistic but safe manner.

We are looking for a professional clinician with a passion for physical health promotion with an emphasis in resuscitatve care. The successful candidate will hold RCUK ILS instructor certification or be willing to achieve this in the first year of employment.

Main duties of the job

SWLSTG deliver adult basic life support (ABLS) in two ways; face-to-face and blended learning. The training includes:

Patient assessment & escalation to 2222/999 Delivering effective compressions with ventilations via a pock mask Safe use of the AED Managing a choke Recovery position Ligature injury Anaphylaxis

Paediatric basic life support (PBLS) training is offered face-to-face and includes:

CPR on babies, toddlers and children Safe use of the AED with emphasis on pad placement. Managing a choke in babies , toddlers and children.

Medical Emergency Training (MET) is offered face-to-face for all qualified nursing and medical staff. This training is Immediate Life Support (ILS) equivalent and aligns with the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) standards.

ABCDE assessment of the deteriating patient Airway management and the use of simple airway adjuncts Managing a cardiac arrest with ventilation via a bag/valve mask

To deliver effective resuscitation training the successful candidate needs to be passionate, confident, and have great communication skills. All resuscitation training has to align with both current RCUK guidelines and core skills training framework (CSTF) so indepth knowledge of the current guidelines is vital to ensure the training delivery is confident and any questions asked by attendee's are effectively addressed.

Job responsibilities

Delivering Trust approved level 2 resuscitation training including CPR, the safe use of the AED, managing a choke, recovery position anaphylaxis and ligature injury to all clinical staff and AHPs. The Trust ensures guidelines, policies and procedures around resuscitation reflect the national perspective. To liaise with the resus officer if any reasonable adjustments need to be implemented to allow all staff to have an engaging teaching experience. Adustments that cannot be met will be escalated to the attendees management team. Assess basic clinical skills and provide remedial training and support to those who fail to meet the required standard. The candidate will inform the resus officer of any training/clinical concerns with an individual staff members competence. The Resuscitation Officer will support the Resuscitation Practitioner to escalate ensuring patient safety. Support the Resuscitation Officer in the provision of current and future resuscitation courses held at SWLSTG. This includes agreeing the amount and type of training required each quarter and populating the training portal. The candidate will be jointly responsible for quality assurance to ensure all clinical and training equipment is maintained and fit for purpose reporingt any issues to the Resuscitation Officer. Conduct unannounced resus simulations on the inpatient wards with the Resuscitation Officer or independently and provide a hot debrief to the staff post simulation, generating a simulation review document for the team to use in staff relection. Support the Resuscitation Officer in conducting realistic medical emergency simulations focussing on a deteriorating patient developing staff confidence in MDT working, SBAR communication, ABCDE assessment and being confident in the emergency bag equipment and documentation provided on wards. Train and manage the Trusts CPR Champion role. Provide support and training to identified ward staff to deliver inhouse resus simulations on wards to further enhance the amount of exposure the staff have in delivering resuscitative care. Carry out spot checks on the wards to ensure the emergency bags documentation is being maintaind as per Trust Resuscitation policy and to escalate any concerns/breaches where necessary to the Resuscitation Officer. To support the Resuscitation Officer in refurbishing used or expired medical emergency bags ensuring available stock for wards is maintained. Liaising with the Medical Device Lead to ensure available stock of clinical consumables is maintained for bag refurbishment. Person Specification
