Job summary

We are pleased to be able to offer exciting opportunities for conscientious, hard-working, caring individuals to join our MRI team as an Imaging assistant.

We currently have 2 MRI scanners at the West Suffolk site and delighted to announce the opening of our Newmarket CDC where we are installing an additional MRI scanner. This is due to open in Autumn 2024. We will provide MRI scanning services to the local community between the hours of 8am-8pm. We are looking for additional staff to support this service at the Newmarket CDC, as well as to support staff at the West Suffolk Hospital. We would be happy to consider part time and full-time applicants.

We are looking for individuals who are keen to learn and enjoy working with people. Need excellent communication skills, to demonstrate initiative as well as care and empathy towards our often-anxious patients. Your role will be key to efficient service delivery and patient experience. Wellbeing is a priority for our staff and staff are highly valued across the team.

Imaging assistants will have varied role within the team from delivering personal care needs to clerical and administrative duties. We are therefore looking for individuals who are enthusiastic and motivated learners and have a genuine interest in working in a rewarding healthcare role in a busy and fast paced team environment. The MRI team is a very friendly team, and we look forward to welcoming successful candidates.

Main duties of the job

Imaging assistants will be responsible for providing a range of personal care needs to patients and for carrying out a range of clinical duties under the direction and supervision of a registered healthcare professional.

Such tasks may include:

Assisting radiographers working in the clinical area

Welcoming patients and preparing them for their scans. This will include performing the initial MRI safety checks with the patients.

Preparing the scanner, organisation, cleaning and preparation of equipment.

Supporting patients before during and after their scans making a positive difference to their experience in the MRI department.

Stock control.

Administrative and clerical roles associated with our various IT systems such as eCare and CRIS

The Trust offers an induction programme to help you achieve your care certificate which you will be required to complete to fulfil this role and we will endeavour to help support and develop individual's knowledge and skills in this exciting and challenging role.

In addition, the MRI environment can pose significant challenges due to the safety considerations associated with magnetic fields. Individuals must be prepared to learn about and understand all aspects of safety associated with MRI to ensure that we keep the safety of patients and staff at the forefront of what we do.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical and nursing personnel, and all supporting hospital departments as appropriate, always maintaining professionalism.

Answer the telephone and relay messages accurately, courteously, and competently. Welcome patients and visitors in a professional, friendly and helpful manner.

Prepare patients for their MRI scan by providing reassurance to the patient to overcome any patient concerns, to obtain the level of cooperation required to achieve a successful outcome to procedures.

Work effectively as a member of the team, offering support to colleagues and requesting assistance as necessary.

Record care given accurately, completely, and concisely on the various systems including CRIS and Ecare.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

Good level of written language and IT skills NVQ level 3 or equivalent or has equivalent clinical experience. Evidence of ongoing CPD Care Certificate or commitment to undertaking and achieving the Care Certificate within initial twelve weeks.

Desirable

Previous experience of being an Imaging Assistant or Health Care Support Worker GCSE English Language and Maths A to C or 4 -9 or functional skills or equivalent

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

Experience of working / communicating with the general public. Communication with a range of different people including service users, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrate through previous experience the ability to escalate concerns Ability to work alone or in small team. Demonstrates an awareness of the importance of keeping the clinical environment safe and clean

Desirable

Experience of working in a healthcare team environment

Good communication skills (written and verbal) Plan and prioritise own workload. Able to manage and organise own time effectively. Ability to undertake extended tasks appropriate to competence. Occupational health clearance to carry out all physical tasks required with no known implants contraindicated to an MRI environment. Committed to delivering high standards of patient care.
