Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time ( WTE) 8A permanent Practitioner Psychologist in the Tics and Neurodevelopmental Movement Disorders (TANDeM) team within the Neurosciences Department at the Evelina London Children's Hospital. We have other 8A posts advertised within the Neurosciences department and there may be an opportunity to offer additional sessions as a split role.

The service is a longstanding and well-regarded tertiary centre which has a national (and international) reputation and receives referrals from districts in the whole of the South East region and UK more broadly.

The post-holder will contribute to multidisciplinary complex assessment clinics and provide evidence-based direct and indirect psychological intervention to children, young people and families with tics and other movement disorders (including complex motor stereotypies and functional tics). This is an interesting and varied role with scope to develop further specialist knowledge and skills within the context of the multi-disciplinary team. Supervision will be provided by an experienced Psychologist within the team and there are good opportunities for professional development. We are a dedicated and supportive team with a commitment to research, audit and evaluation and there are many active projects within the department.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialist psychological assessments based on appropriate use of a range methods (including generic developmental assessment, cognitive assessments, validated tests, self-report measures, rating scales, observations and clinical interviews with children, families and other agencies)

To work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality integrated care, contributing to diagnosis and formulation of young people's neurodevelopmental, movement disorder and/or mental health needs.

To provide recommendations for support based on psychological formulation and evidence base.

Offer psychological assessments and intervention of children and young people presenting with neurodevelopmental needs such as Tic disorders, autism and associated difficulties as part of a multidisciplinary team clinic.

Supervision of assistant, trainee and undergraduate psychology students.

Essential

HCPC Registration as Practitioner Psychologist Eligible for Full membership of the BPS division of clinical, health, educational and child or counselling psychology

Education / Qualifications

Essential

BSc (Hons) in Psychology Doctorate level qualification in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, educational psychology or health psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS)

Desirable

Trained in the use of or experience using evidence based interventions for Tic therapy.

Previous experience

Essential

Experience delivering highly skilled psychological assessments (including psychometric), interventions, follow-up and data monitoring utilising at least 2 therapeutic/intervention models including CBT. Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts. Expertise working with a wide variety of client groups, and across the full range of clinical severity Experience of using evidence based psychological interventions for the assessment and treatment of a wide variety of psychological problems, Experience of providing both group based and individual interventions using evidence based psychological approaches Experience designing, conducting and leading on research activities at a doctorate level including service related research and audits Experience of teaching, training health professionals in psychological concepts

Ability to cope with challenging caseloads and ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner with appropriate level of clinical and managerial supervision. Ability to assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans. Ability to or working towards a supervision qualification with a view of supervising band 7 psychologist and pre-qualified psychologists with a clear understand of theory and practice of psychology. Knowledge of psychological interventions, application and supervision of others particularly CBT and behaviour management. Knowledge of using of evidence based methods of psychological and behavioural assessment and intervention, requiring sustained and intense concentration. Ability to communicate at both a written and oral level, imparting complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, and carers and a wide range of lay and professional people within and outside the NHS Ability to translate and integrate evidence based research/guidelines into the development of a pathway of care. Ability to provide consultation to other professional and non-professional groups Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS
