Job summary

The Paediatric Psychological Medicine Team is predominantly a Health Psychology team working into various physical health specialties with Addenbrookes hospital.

The post holder will work as part of the Paediatric Psychological Medicine team, in close partnership with the PEDAL Research Centre at the University of Cambridge, to conduct a review of the evidence base for early mental health interventions (0-5s) to clarify which interventions are effective, for who, and the common elements of effective interventions.

Main duties of the job

To utilise research skills to identify interventions that meet a pre-specified threshold of evidence in terms of effectiveness and methodological rigour. To source materials (including training materials, programme manuals, and articles related to interventions) and apply a common elements analysis framework to the materials. To conduct analysis of early mental health interventions with a focus on psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, and attachment-based interventions, and identify examples of good practice. To extract and interpret findings for colleagues and the other stakeholders, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To liaise with a broad range of stakeholders and organisations working across the early years sector. To engage stakeholders for patient and public involvement and co-production initiatives. To support the NHS England Perinatal Mental Health project team with stakeholder queries regarding the data and interpretation. The post-holder will be able to produce outputs aimed at providing best practice guidance and support to staff in other agencies in the care and management of families receiving early intervention. The post holder will be supported in undertaking training and professional development to support their career progression. They will be supported by relevant senior researchers within the PEDAL centre.

To interpret and analyse data from a variety of sources (including psychological articles, intervention manuals/protocols, training materials, and case studies) and integrate these with theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that shape individuals, families, and communities. To develop psychological frameworks of parenting skills and features of parent-child interactions that integrate information from available literature within a coherent framework that draws upon psychological theory and evidence, and that incorporates interpersonal, societal, cultural and biological factors. To co-lead focus groups and consultations with practitioners across NHS and third sector services (, health visitors, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers) to gain insights through sharing experiences of evidence-based practice and integrating learning. To co-lead focus groups and consultations with caregivers of young children in public and patient involvement initiatives that aim to co-produce guidance for cross-service use. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for project outputs (, service frameworks, literature reviews, reports, and guidance) in line with service guidelines and under the overall co-ordination of the Principal Investigators. To communicate, in a skilled and sensitive manner, to other practitioners, service users, and other key stakeholders as appropriate. To attend and contribute to team meetings and discussions. To work in partnership with other disciplines and to maintain links with Statutory and non-statutory and primary care agencies as appropriate. To contribute to the reduction of risk in areas of responsibility. To produce project reports and notes in a timely manner and to provide management information in line with Trust policies and procedures in a timely manner. Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

oMaster's degree in psychology, public health, or closely related discipline

Desirable

PhD/Doctoral level training in psychology or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience), with subject expertise in mental health and/or early intervention

Experience

oExperience organising and conducting applied research projects in applied research (mental health, healthcare, education, early years, social care) oExperience of project management oExperience of developing and implementing quantitative and/or qualitative research projects, including analysing complex information oExperience writing reports and producing outputs to a high standard. oExperience of developing effective and productive working relationships within and beyond own organisation

Desirable

oExperience conducting systematic reviews. oExperience of patient and public involvement in research, particularly of working with diverse communities. oExperience testing and/or delivering one or more parenting programme in early years services (, video-feedback approaches, home visiting, parent-child psychotherapy) oExperience of working within a multicultural framework.
