NIHR Clinical Fellow (BTRU)
- Department of Surgery/Royal Papworth Hospital

Applications are invited for a one-year clinical fellow post in the National Institute for Health and Care Research Blood and Transplant Research Unit in Organ Donation and Transplantation (NIHR BTRU in ODT). The post will be based mainly at Royal Papworth Hospital with research carried out at the Heart and Lung Research Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The proposed start date is February 2024. The NIHR BTRU in ODT provides a centre of excellence dedicated to research into organ donation and transplantation. The overarching aims are to increase the number of organs available, improve long-term outcomes and improve quality of life after transplant.

Organ perfusion is a major theme within the BTRU research portfolio and the unit has internationally recognised expertise in this area. Work under Theme 1 of the BTRU is focusing on optimisation of perfusion parameters and examining ex vivo perfusion as a platform for the pre-transplant delivery of cellular and other therapeutics in the heart, lung, liver and kidney. The focus of this post will be heart and lung perfusion research.

This is an excellent opportunity for a medically qualified trainee with an interest in organ donation and transplantation. Previous experience in heart and lung perfusion research is essential. A knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Human Tissue Act (HTA) is expected.

The role holder will be responsible for running their own perfusion research projects and will work with the Royal Papworth team who have expertise in this area.

Fixed term: This post is available for 1 year. The proposed start date is February 2024.
