Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellow (ST6+) in NICU and PaNDR, to commence from 02 September 2024 until 31 August 2025.

The post holder will have the opportunity of working in the Neonatal PaNDR in the East of England, in our large tertiary neonatal intensive care unit in Cambridge and within the Newborn Research team.

PaNDR completes over 1200 neonatal transfers per year and receives referrals from hospitals across the East of England. With Consultant support you will be trained to transfer sick medical and surgical newborns.

The Neonatal service offers a full range of intensive care facilities including neonatal surgery and Neonatal neurocritical care. The neonatal unit has 40 cots 26 intensive and high dependency care and 12 special care cots.

You will have the opportunity to join in the wide range of educational and training opportunities within Neonatal Transport, NICU and the research team which match those of recognised training posts.

Main duties of the job

These posts are particularly suited to those wishing to gain experience in Neonatal research and clinical experience at middle grade level in a centre of excellence including neonatal transport, see more detailed information in the attached Job Description.

Applicants need to demonstrate an interest in Neonatology with a good level of procedural skills. They need to have an interest in research but no prior experience is required for this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The overall balance of research and clinical time commitment to the post, will be 50:50 pro rata but this may be split differentially during the time course of the post. Clinical shifts are each 12.5 hrs and will be a mixture of daytime, nights and weekend cover.

The Cambridge Newborn Research Team lead by Dr K Beardsall is based at The Rosie Hospital, and within the University Academic Department of Paediatrics. It supports a wide range of research into the monitoring and management of newborn infants and the impact on long term health. Research themes include i. The role of continuous glucose monitoring in infants at risk of dysglycemia, ii. Lipidomics, iii. Alternative monitoring strategies including wireless and non-contact monitoring.
