Teaching Assistant in a Pupil Referral Unit (Plymouth)

Teaching Personnel is excited to offer a rewarding opportunity to join a dedicated team at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Plymouth area. This role is perfect for those who are passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives, particularly those who have faced challenges in mainstream education. The PRU is committed to providing a fresh start for students, helping them to reintegrate into mainstream education.

Role Details:

  • Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Location: Plymouth Area, with access to specialized facilities for construction, music, and other subjects.

About the PRU: The school offers a safe and supportive environment where every pupil is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. With a team of highly skilled staff, the PRU focuses on creating an inclusive learning environment and fostering positive relationships with students, many of whom have had negative experiences in traditional educational settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the promotion of positive behavior, kindness, and academic engagement.
  • Treat all children with equal respect, while establishing and maintaining positive boundaries.
  • Work closely with parents and colleagues to create a safe, nurturing environment for students.
  • Assist students in understanding lessons and activities delivered by the teacher.
  • Provide support to individual pupils or across a class, often working alongside other support assistants.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ASD, SEMH, non-verbal communication, PMLD, MLD, or visual impairment.
  • A calm, kind, and enthusiastic demeanor with a strong work ethic.
  • A good level of academic ability.
  • A full driving license and access to their own vehicle.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete the process through us).
  • Availability for at least six months.
  • A fully checkable work history.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
