Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing leadership team both within Psychological Therapies and our South Network. The post holder will take a lead on the provision and development of Older Adult services across the trust footprint as well as joining our South Network leadership team alongside our Network Director of Quality, Nursing and AHP and Network Medical Director and Network Director of Operations

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join the senior leadership team in the South Division Network. They will become part of the collective leadership team for the care network and be responsible for all psychological therapies in the Care Network, but they will also use their specific clinical expertise and become the Trust clinical lead for psychological therapies across Older Adult ServicesThe post holder will be responsible for professional psychological practice and quality across the entire Older Adult psychological therapies pathway to ensure excellence in service delivery, staff wellbeing, patient experience and outcomes. They will have a Trust wide perspective on Older Adult pathways as well as a strategic focus outside the Trust. They will work closely with the CPPO, the South Division senior leadership team, the Borough Operational Managers and Health and Local Authority Commissioners. They will be part of a collaborative and compassionfocussed leadership team, taking a trauma responsive approach to delivering services as part of a leadership team. They will facilitate coordination of supervision and training placements and support recruitment, professional self-regulation and continuing professional development. It is also expected that the post-holder willretain a small caseload and provide a specialist clinical role within the psychological service team where they are based. They will deputise for the Chief Psychological Professions Officer as and when it is appropriate

In summary:

Main Duties and Responsibilities specific to psychological therapies role To provide clinical and professional leadership for all psychological therapies staff within the Care Network and across the Trust with regards to the specific care pathway of Older Adults and to contribute to the collaborative leadership work as a senior member of the Leadership Team. To provide clinical and professional advice on psychological practice and providing assurance on the delivery of psychological approaches both within the South Division and across the Trust as it relates to their designated care pathway of Older Adults To attend the psychotherapeutics committee meetings and ensure the implementation of the work plan as it relates to the South Division and Older Adults To be responsible for the development of psychological approaches and interventions and roles to support care delivery across the Care Network and across the Trust for Older Adults To ensure that arrangements are in place to contribute to the effective clinical and professional supervision of staff in the Care Network, including professional appraisal and the identification of CPD needs across the network and work jointly with the other Associate Directors for psychological therapies and the CPPO to ensure that these arrangements are in place for pathway services across the Trust To lead on policy development and implementation as related to psychological service provision across psychological therapies pathways and support the implementation of the Trust Mental Healthstrategy. To undertake audit, teaching and research activities, and to promote research activity within the psychological therapies across the Care Network and within the Older Adults care pathway To ensure that arrangements are in place for the systematic governance of psychological practice across the Care Network and jointly with the CPPO and the other Associate Directors for psychologicaltherapies to ensure this is in place for the specific care pathway across the Trust To provide a specialist clinical service directly to clients and through the provision of expert advice,consultancy, and supervision to professional colleagues.

Collective Leadership responsibilities for the Care Hub/Network

Ensure that the shared organisational vision and strategic ambitions, values and culture of the Trust are actively promoted and that the post-holder provides clear leadership and is a role model for theirdelivery. The post holder will also have a specific focus on psychological therapies with regard to the tasks listed below. Provide leadership and management to the South Division Network as part of the collective leadership team. Responsible for ensuring appropriate governance arrangements are in place, including risk management, health and safety, emergency planning (inc. business continuity) and Information Governance with a specific focus on psychological therapies. Ensure governance arrangements are maintained and tested to provide assurance that quality standards and outcomes are delivered for patients and their carers, and that staff are supported in a safe environment with a specific focus on psychological post holder will join the Network Director of Quality, Nursing and AHP and Network Medical Director and Network Director of Operations to form the collective leadership team for the care hubTo be jointly responsible for:Setting Strategic Direction developing service strategies and plans for improvement that promote consistency in standards and outcomes across our footprint.Delivery and Performance ensuring accountability and governance in place within the Care Network and support delivery of the Trust Big Ambitions, strategic objectives, and statutory requirements.Leadership and Support creating the right culture and environment for high a member of the leadership team, the post holder is responsible for ensuring services within the Care Network comply with CQC registration requirements, national and local performance targets, annualbusiness plan priorities and internal governance processes. The post holder is also jointly responsible for maximising the use of resources within the Care Network by leading on transformation priorities, serviceimprovements, quality improvements and efficiency programmes.Working with the leadership teams within the other Care Networks, the post holder will ensure people with lived experience and their carers have a strong voice in decision making and service developmentand will embed continuous improvement throughout all services to ensure service users and carers experience the best possible post holder is also responsible for ensuring mechanisms are in place for employee involvement and engagement across the Care Network in order to develop an open and inclusive culture with a focus onemployee health and wellbeing, equality and post holder will be a member of the Gold on-call rota.

Qualifications

Essential

Good honours degree in psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS). Post-graduate doctorate in clinical psychology, (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) as accredited by the BPS including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological theories and lifespan development psychology. HCPC registered as a practitioner psychologist (clinical). Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Assessed substantial experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist within Older Adult services Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, including Older Adults, across the whole life course, in various settings including outpatient, community, primary care inpatient and residential care settings. Also including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threats of physical abus Experience of effective multi -agency and disciplinary team working and networking Experience of clinical and professional management of qualified and pre - qualified clinical psychologists and other psychological therapists. Experience of teaching, training and / or professional and clinical supervision. Experience of strategic service development and evaluation.

Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological theories and lifespan development psychology. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis. Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health. Awareness of relevant professional guidelines and standards for the provision of psychological services and ability to interpret and implement the same in practice and service delivery.

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. High level ability to communicate effectively at both written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS. Highly developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. High level skills in clinical and professional supervision. Ability to think and plan strategically at a clinical and service level, where interventions may impact on a range of services and individuals and require longer term objectives and planning. Ability to articulate and represent psychological therapies services perspectives in a range of clinical and professional fora. Ability to identify, and employ, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour. Ability to demonstrate leadership and management skills Ability to provide teaching, training, advice, consultation and supervision to meet the needs of a wide range of lay and professional people, using a range of formats and materials. Enthusiasm for a broad range of psychological approaches and an interest in models of service delivery; and an ability to articulate the value added by psychological services within the context of multidisciplinary mental health services Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly challenging behaviours Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to 'hold' the stress of others. Ability to articulate and interpret the roles and professions psychological therapists based on a good understanding of the framework of government and national professional policy. Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
