This is an exciting opportunity for the appointee to work in a major NW London NHS trust, with areputation for educational excellence within a friendly and supportive cultureThis post is based at Ealing Hospital theatres, which is one of three sites within our trust (Northwick Park, Ealing and Central Middlesex Hospitals). Successful candidates will further their experiencein a range of surgical subspecialties, to include elective and emergency upper & lower general surgery, orthopaedics/trauma, gynaecology, endoscopy, and dental surgery. The upper GI service has recently expanded, providing increased capacity for surgery such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and an upper GI hub is planned for the near future.

There is a dedicated emergency/trauma theatre list 24/7, with weekday consultant cover. In addition, the departmentprovides an outreach service for ECT and for DC cardioversions in the Coronary Care Unit. Also included are potential opportunities to work at the Northwick Park Hospital site to broaden this case mix, to include major head & neck, vascular, obstetrics, urology and major colorectal surgery.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for the appointee to work in a major NW London NHS trust. The post is ideal for candidates who have a minimum of 4 years' broad experience in anaesthesia (includingin critical care) and have a postgraduate qualification equivalent to the FRCA (Royal College ofAnaesthetists, UK).Undertake pre assessment, intraoperative and post-operative anaesthetic care ofpatients undergoing elective and emergency surgery.

Job responsibilities

Undertake pre assessment, intraoperative and post-operative anaesthetic care ofpatients undergoing elective and emergency surgery. Post-operative care to include follow-up and pain management. Know and be able to safely and competently deliver care during anaestheticemergencies in patients of all age groups. Communicate with supervising Consultant Anaesthetist for advice and support asrequired and not act beyond the level of own competence (escalating to the oncallconsultant anaesthetist out-of-hours) Attend cardiac arrests/trauma calls and support critically ill patients, both on theward and in the Emergency Department, to support the primary responder. Provide intra- and inter-hospital transfers of critically unwell patients. Supervise, train and support less experienced anaesthetic colleagues (including theAnaesthetic junior trainee/fellow, 222-bleep holder) Provide out-of-hours acute pain management as required (with the Anaesthetic juniortrainee/fellow)3 Be familiar with the Trusts Major Incident policy and other significant departmentalpolicies Perform duties on occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at therequest of the appropriate consultant in consultation where applicable with his/hercolleagues both senior and junior Effect detailed handover at the end of a duty shift. Attend teaching sessions and departmental meetings including Clinical Governance. Participate in audit, risk management, clinical governance and teaching.
