Job Description

3 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

·        To ensure Adult Learning Lewisham and designated community premises are secure, clean, warm. Under the guidance of the Premises Team Leader and/or Premises and Facilities Manager to provide a safe environment for staff, service users and visitors; ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation. 

·        To be responsible holding and securing premises keys for purpose of the opening and closing of centres; ensuring that effective locking up and opening procedures are followed and provide access to internal areas as appropriate i.e. to scheduled contractors, centre users etc.

·        To be responsible for portering duties, general maintenance and minor repairs at all locations. Monitoring, identifying and reporting premises related jobs, equipment faults through the FM helpdesk where required.  

·        To action daily centre related tasks and those set out on the premises team task system, this includes responding to room setups, room resource requests, water flushing, alarm testing etc.

·        Take responsibility for the collection and distribution of incoming mail, parcels and other deliveries. Ensure that all mail (some of which will be confidential) and deliveries are held securely; with due regard for data protection regulations (GDPR).

·        To deliver the best possible customer service in line with the Premises and Facilities service offer to visitors, centre users, as well to with colleagues and other staff.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

·        To ensure that the heating and ventilation within Centres is working to a satisfactory standard and maximizes fuel efficiency.

·        To regularly inspect equipment and undertake daily inspections of boiler equipment as required by the Site Manager.

·        To take delivery of stores, materials, etc and transport them to all Centres, as required. To carry out general duties as required for the café areas.

·        To ensure internal/external grounds are maintained in a clean and tidy manner at all times. To effectively control parking in Centre car parks.

·        To ensure that the heating and ventilation within Centres is working to a satisfactory standard and maximizes fuel efficiency.

·        To ensure access to buildings and facilities are safe and meet the needs of all visitors, centre users and staff including those with disabilities. To bring to the attention of the premises team leader and/or premises and facilities manager any repairs or adjustments which need to be made.

Essential Experience Required:

·        Experience of carrying out minor repairs is essential.

·        Experience of ensuring building security and of being a secure key holder is essential.

·        Experience of ensuring heating and ventilation systems are fit for purpose is essential.

Essential Qualification Required:

·        General education qualification is essential.

·        First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain one is essential.

Additional information to note:

·        Working hours: 35 hours per week.

·        The post holder must Be able to work weekends,  late evenings and at either one of the three Learning centres.

·        The post holder must have a current, valid driving licence.

·        The postholder will be required to carry out manual handling and carrying.
