Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a unit/team manager for the bed management and discharge lounge teams who is motivated, dynamic with an interest or background in bed management and patient flow.

You will be required to work flexibly in a changing environment, to be confident and approachable. We are looking for someone to lead and manage the nurse team. Someone who is highly motivated and passionate about the delivery of quality patient care that is evidence based and patient centered and someone who can also support the ongoing development and well-being of the team.

The successful candidate will have previous experience at Band 6 or Band 7 level. Excellent communication skills are essential and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate and sustain new and innovative ways of working which facilitate developments in nursing practice.

You will be required to provide continuity in dealing with and overseeing operational nursing issues on a daily basis. Therefore, the ability to lead, manage and direct a team efficiently and effectively is essential. You will be able to display supportive skills and an ability to nurture teams and develop the workforce efficiently.

You will help shape future services working and supporting the Matron and Lead Nurse within the directorate.

Main duties of the job

Within this role the post holder will be expected support patient flow throughout the WTWA, support plans devised and discharges in a timely manner. Provide advice and guidance to the multidisciplinary team and ensure all records and documentation are completed and relevant. The role involves managing staff, rotas, appraisals, recruitment and selection, resource control and bugetry management for the area. This role involves the overall 24-hour responsibility for the Ward/Dept./Unit and therefore will require enhanced communication skills in order to deal with the broad range of issues involved in the day to day management of the ward/dept/unit.
