We are looking for a highly motivated senior nurse leader to join the Executive Nursing team in the role of Matron for Workforce

We are looking for an experienced, driven and inspirational senior nurse. You will have a recent track record of successfully developing and leading workforce and recruitment and retention initiatives. You will be a highly visible and credible presence across the whole of the Trust and have the ability to deliver to standards and deadlines.

Main duties of the job

The role will provide senior professional nursing leadership to workforce and recruitment and retention initiatives, Supporting Divisions to deliver key initiatives for workforce within clinical settings. This will require the post holder to build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders; ensuring that the Trust is responsive and engaged in external nursing workforce initiatives and able to lead the implementation of such projects across the trust.

You will have a collaborative approach to work, with strong negotiating and influencing skills and the ability to successfully manage a demanding portfolio of work.

You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to solve problems with effective solutions.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust’s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients – the first of its kind in the country.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Registered Nurse Masters degree in nursing or a health related subject or equivalent experience Evidence of CPD

Senior experience of managing, leading and developing teams Post registration experience in practice development. Successful experience of leading and managing highly complex projects, changes and innovations in nursing practice to tight deadlines and to a high standard. Experience of workforce planning and recruitment and retention strategies. Up to date knowledge and understanding of health care and educational policy and processes. Knowledge and understanding of the education commissioning processes (including quality monitoring and education contract reviews). Knowledge of NHS funding streams, NHS audit and quality assurance bodies.

Ability to implement and develop policy into practice. Excellent organisational and time management skills Good analytical/critical appraisal and deductive reasoning skills. Well developed communication skills including: interpersonal skills, negotiating and influencing skills, writing and presentation skills – able to communicate at all levels within a large organisation.
