We are looking for an enthusiastic person to add to our dynamic team of Admissions Schedulers to co-ordinate all appointment bookings for patients needing surgical procedures within Ophthalmology.

The role is to ensure all patients have their pre-assessment appointments and surgery dates booked appropriately and in a timely manner.

You'll be liaising with both patients and clinicians on a daily basis so you need to be approachable, confident and caring.

We need individuals who can keep calm in our fast-paced environment, are able to prioritise their workload effectively and are happy to be busy and challenged.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive and efficient Trust-wide booking service for patients requiring surgery. To work as part of the Admissions Office to provide the best possible customer service for patients and colleagues. To ensure that admission requests are processed and booked in line with the Trust Access Policy. This requires both timely and accurate input of data onto the Patient Administration System (PAS) and other electronic and paper systems as required. To respond to and deal with a variety of often complex booking requests in a timely manner, whether by telephone or in person, ensuring that patients are booked according to clinical priority and the Trust Access Policy taking into account both patients' choice and the need to ensure that appointment slots are not wasted.

An understanding of admissions and waiting list procedures equivalent to NVQ Level 3 which may have been gained through formal study or previous work experience.

Experience

Evidence of competence in literacy and numeracy Evidence of experience of dealing with public.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

Able to deal with difficult situations with patients, public and visitors both face to face and on the telephone who may be anxious or distressed about health-related issues in a tactful and sensitive manner. Includes imparting unwelcome news regarding delays to treatment on daily basis. Ability to communicate in writing in English with colleagues and patients regarding appointments and handover of work. Ability to provide advice and guidance to patients and the public regarding what to expect when they attend for their appointments and procedures.
