Job Purpose:

A vacancy exists for a Lead Operational Engineer to manage their allocated operational team in all aspects of operational construction relating to the UK Power Network Services owned assets and associated infrastructure.

You will work with and support the Client Delivery Manager and other members of the UKPN Services Senior Management Team in the delivery of goals and future new business identification and delivery. You will provide leadership to the Operation Engineers, Apprentices and Contractors to undertake and complete the construction activities is a safe manner, minimising disruption to the client's electricity supply.

You will ensure delivery of Client-focused construction projects, oversee management of substation and cabling construction on designated client's private networks infrastructure. You will ensure safety management throughout the team in all areas of your position's responsibility following the UK Power Network Service Stay Safe directive.

Private HV Distribution Networks are of critical importance. Operating, maintaining and construction of the networks is a 24/7 job that requires attention to detail, dedication and a great deal of cooperation across all disciplines (internal/external).

You will manage your team and undertake planning and delivery of new connection work, diversions, fault location and repair in addition to lifecycle replacement schemes and construction activities associated with electrical distribution equipment and infrastructure.

Principle accountabilities and responsibilities:

Ensure safety management throughout all areas of responsibility. Delivery of construction programme within the UKPN Services owned and operated assets operating at voltages 11kV to 400v. Work with the Client Delivery Manager to ensure that all programmes of works are delivered to time and budget following contractual commitments to time, cost and quality. Help manage budgets relating to the construction delivery and meet ongoing goals. Lead and motivate staff under their leadership to ensure that UKPN Services company goals are achieved especially in staff and client satisfaction. Ensure staff utilisation targets are met to maximise business productivity and profitability. Follow client and UKPN Services operations and procedures. Ensure compliance wit CDM and UKPN Services Health and Safety polices. Develop site specification HS&E procedures. Compliance with UKPN Services Quality policies. Operate and update asset databases in respect to project goals. Responsible for both reactive and planned construction works/activities. Perform fault investigation and repairs where required. Modify equipment and drawings to ensure the operation of the substations. Ensure compliance with the DSRs (Distribution Safety Rules) during all activities. Oversee all contractors and staff working on site. Undertake additional activities determined by the job level and competency. Build business relationships with the clients engineering and project management teams and their appointed principal contractors/contractors. Seek opportunities to develop future business related to the HV clients and make recommendations to improve network reliance. Responsibility for delivery of all construction, maintenance and fault works to time, cost and quality. Ensure compliance with all procedures and work to a high standard of quality. Daily planning, coordination and real-time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources. Collaborate with HV/LV control – submission of HV/LV switching schedules, complete HV/LV network operations in accordance to distribution safety rules and procedures Support and provide technical support to field staff. Obtain supplier quotations and raise purchase orders with finance, procurement and governance procedures. Change Management – ensure early warning notices are raised to the Project Management Team, Client Delivery Manager and Client. Provide technical support to the team. Deliver Team Briefings Identify potential risk and opportunities and raise awareness to the company and Client Delivery Manager. Seek continuous improvement. Support the Client Delivery Manager in the delivery of our client Development and Key Account Management Plan. Produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the safe delivery of projects work. Manage operational team including the setting of IPRs, control overtime, and operational costs. Manage daily activities of the operational team to ensure the successful completion of all engineering tasks. Working with the Client Delivery Manager to ensure all commercial, contract and financial aspects are complied with for the operational team. Working with the Client Delivery Manager to ensure resources are available following the agreed plans to complete all engineering activities following the client requirements. Complete quality assurance checks of works completed and rectify any quality issues identified. To be prepared to assist other sections e.g. organisational changes, system emergencies as determined by your expertise. Complete out of hours safety/emergency response (Standby). Manage contractors, carrying out high and low voltage maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

Senior Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules. Experience in distribution systems through the range 11kV to 400v. Educated to a minimum HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Experience of distribution HV systems. Experience of specialist HV equipment for the relevant client networks. High Level of Customer Focus, adds value to the customer and ensures the team completes all projects to customer expectations. Team Working, manages and integrates well in a team and promotes good team work. You will achieve full Ministry of Defence Security Clearance. Identify problems, understand important issues and investigate alternatives. Read drawings and understand content. Hold full driving licence. We ask that you manage and prioritise a varied work load, and communicate with people at all levels. Work as part of a team committed to the delivery of high- profile projects. Use Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packages An understanding of Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation, CDM standards and focussed on safe working. Initiative, acts in the interest of the company to develop the business to agreed goals.

A broad understanding of UK Power Networks Services businesses. An knowledge of UK Power Networks Services PC&G process. Travel around the SPN region/portfolio. Ability to manage time and to meet deadlines. To be skilful in decision-making. Relevant Safety Qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
