Job summary

An opportunity has arisen in the Radiology Departments at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), Cromer District Hospital and the new Community Diagnostic Centre for a Band 2 Radiology Department Assistant.

The Radiology department sits within the Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services division and provides diagnostic imaging and therapeutic treatments across a range of specialties across the Trust.

This is role will rotate on a roster basis throughout the department including MRI, CT, Plain Film, Ultrasound and Antenatal Ultrasound. The rotation will include shifts at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and Cromer District Hospital and the new Community Diagnostic Centre.

There will be an expectation to work a mix of hour and hour shifts which cover the 24-hour period including night shifts , over seven days of the week, inclusive of Bank Holidays.

Main duties of the job

This role involves assisting with all aspects of Imaging including preparing patients for examinations, helping to position patients for examinations and assisting with interventional procedures.

The role is very much patient focused so the successful candidate will have good communication skills and be able to demonstrate care and empathy to those who are unwell or distressed, helping them through the Imaging process.

The post holder will contribute to the provision of a high standard of care for patients and carry out some duties unaided, in accordance with Trust/Directorate policy, at the discretion of qualified staff.

Job responsibilities

1. Under the supervision of Radiographers assist with all aspects of imaging, including changing patients in preparation for examination. Administering oral contrast to patients having CT and MRI and to act as a second checker for Radiology Contrast media in CT and MRI, and Buscopan in MRI and CT Colonoscopies, according to Trust protocol.

2. In accordance with Trust and Directorate policy, undertake structured theoretical and practical based training to:

4. Prepare and maintain trolleys for biopsies and to assist with biopsies, drainages etc, as and when the need arises.

5. Understand and demonstrate the fundamentals of Radiation Protection.
