Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join and help develop the brand new Paediatric Recovery From Illness MDT, providing multi-disciplinary support to children and young people with long-term conditions, and to their families. The Assistant Psychologist will be supported by and work closely with the lead Clinical Psychologist is the team. They will also be part of the wider Child Psychology Department.

Main duties of the job

The Assistant Psychologist will be supervised to deliver psychological support to children and young people from within an MDT context. This could include developing individual plans and general resources, as well as providing training and advice about the psychological needs of children and young people with chronic symptoms. The Assistant Psychologist will also have the opportunity to provide individual psychological interventions directly to children, young people and families, as well as to develop and facilitate group interventions. In addition, they will support the team to assess the effectiveness of the offered interventions .

The Assistant Psychologist will be an important member of the new Paediatric Recovery From Illness multi-disciplinary team. The MDT will adopt a collaborative approach with colleagues from Paediatrics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Dietetics all working together to support children, young people and families.

The Assistant Psychologist will also be welcomed into the SBUHB Child Psychology department. This is an expanding, friendly and supportive network of psychologists working with babies, children and families. We meet regularly for CPD, reflective practice and to share ideas and developments.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
