Assistant Psychologist

We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join the integrated Occupational Health & Staff Wellbeing Service, to support Health Board staff experiencing mild to moderate Mental Health issues. These service provides short term interventions, training and support via telephone, face to face and group sessions. The role is based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital Site, however there is an expectation to work across multiple sites across the Health Board as well as home working.
The post offers the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and an overview of how psychology is applied at both and organisational and individual level and thus is likely to be of high value to a proficient assistant interested in pursuing a career in clinical psychology, as such we are seeking applicants with previous assistant psychologist experience as following training there is an expectation for significant independent working.
The post holder will, under the supervision of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist provide assistant psychology input to the Staff Wellbeing arm of the Occupational Health and Staff Wellbeing Team which sits within the Workforce & Organisational Development Directorate. The post involves direct clinical work to Health Board staff via 1:1 and group level therapeutic or psychoeducative interventions, the delivery of which will vary from face-to-face, telephone consultation and remote (e.g. MS TEAMS). The post holder will also be responsible for the coordination and delivery of proactive workshops such as: Work Related Stress Risk Assessment Training and Mental Health Awareness / REACT sessions to staff groups and the evaluation of their effectiveness. These proactive sessions are a key component of supporting the emotional / mental health of employees by identifying early signs of mental distress.
The post holder will additionally support the work of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist by way of analysis of service performance data, evaluation of clinical outcomes, conducting relevant literature reviews and developing resources for staff groups and the organisation as appropriate.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

To contribute to the running of the Staff Wellbeing Service through providing dedicated client sessions. To listen empathically, being aware of mental health risk indicators and sign posting clients as appropriate.
To conduct pre-and post-intervention measurement of participants attending Work Related Stress Risk Assessment training and Mental Health Awareness sessions. To initially co-facilitate these sessions alongside the Consultant Psychologist and to assume responsibility for organising the logistics of the session (e.g. allocating participants, preparing materials etc). When confident, to assume responsibility for delivering these sessions independently. To use the evaluation feedback to make suggestions for further adaptations.
To assist in the running and coordination of therapeutic groups and teaching sessions.
To undertake appropriate clinical outcome and client satisfaction measures for psychological interventions delivered within the service (e.g. by the Consultant Psychologist and the Staff Counselling Service) and to collate performance management information as required.
