South Wales Trauma Network Rehabilitation Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Swansea Bay University Health Board (as the host) to appoint a Rehabilitation Lead for the South Wales Trauma Network covering South Wales, West Wales and South Powys.
This role will support six Health Boards, Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust and the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) Cymru in the provision of Paediatric trauma care to the population of the Network. This recently established Network will ensure that our services work together to enable patients to receive the best care for life-threatening or life-changing injuries.
You will be a key member of the Network team, working closely with the Clinical Director, Network Manager, and other Network Clinical Leads. The post holder will receive support from the Operational Delivery Network.
The principle responsibilities of this role include providing the strategic direction, leadership and vision with regard to the planning and implementation of the paediatric pathway for major trauma within the network.
**This role will be expected to work closely with**:
- Clinical Director for the network.
- Network manager and clinical and managerial leads across the network
- WAST and EMRTS.
- Network leads for governance, education and training lead, quality improvement and research and paediatrics.
- Partner organisations (e.g. emergency planning).
- Commissioning bodies.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and operational delivery of the network in relation to the provision of adult and paediatric rehabilitation in specialist centre(s), local hospitals and the community
There will be a requirement for potential travel across South and West Wales.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Chair and lead network rehabilitation working group. Report into the governance subcommittee and attend network board where requested.
- Undertake a baseline analysis against clinical standards for major trauma across current services and advise on service requirements (Specialised, local and community).
- Develop the service specification for specialist rehabilitation in conjunction with the trauma network boar, commissioning bodies and partner organisations ensuring a whole system approach.
- Work with health boards to determine how service specification could be met once network becomes operational.
- Lead development a network directory of trauma rehabilitation services including specialist, local and community based services.
- Develop and implement a network wide trauma rehabilitation prescription (incl. specialist rehabilitation prescription in conjunction with MTC rehabilitation clinical lead).
- Lead development of trauma network wide referral guidelines to specialist, local and community based services.
- Lead development and delivery of a trauma network rehabilitation education programme for health care professionals, in conjunction with network training and education lead.
- Report into the network governance structures once operational.
- Oversee review of clinical governance issues related to trauma rehabilitation from across the network, ensuring lessons are learnt and that is informs a process of clinical audit, risk management and continuous quality improvement.
- Respond to performance management issues related to rehabilitation across the network and put in place strategies for improvement and mitigating risk.
- Seek to support the development of rehabilitation follow-up clinics and rehabilitation outreach advice, working with community rehabilitation units and trauma units.
- Encourage and facilitate communication across professional boundaries to ensure a seamless provision of major trauma rehabilitation services.
- Support the production of reports used for performance management of the network including an annual report.
