Vulnerable children in the UK need your help
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.
A bit about the role
Our Residential Support Workers create a safe and supportive environment for children and young people to grow and develop. You will ensure their wellbeing is prioritised by delivering personalised care, guidance and advocacy. It is key that they stay safe and healthy and can reach their full potential.
In return we will offer you amazing opportunities to progress within our organisation.
We offer an in-depth induction process and training. Alongside this, we will enrol you in the qualifications which you need to work in the industry. Regular supervision with your line manager, team meetings etc. will ensure you feel part of our team.
Once you have gained the relevant experience and qualifications you will be ready to progress to the next step in your career with us.
About the service
Ty Laura provides Short Break overnight stays for children and young people with complex additional learning and health needs on a minimum of 2 nights per month basis. We support up to 4 children a night, across 6 days a week. As part of a friendly and supportive team you will provide opportunities for the young people to develop socially, behaviourally, emotionally, independent living skills as well as supporting them to integrate in their local community.
Our aim is to provide opportunities and experiences that widen the individuals sense of belonging through our individualised support. We want our young people to be seen for the happy, bubbly individuals they are and not their disability. You will support them to attend trips including bowling, cinema, Buzz Trampoline park etc as well as supporting with medication, personal care, feeding and dressing.
You'll be a key role model to the people we support. Your role will also require you to attend training, team meetings and take part in supervisions to aid your development and ability to provide high quality individualised support to our young people.

Examples of this include morning shifts starting at 7am (finishing between 11am and 2pm), afternoon shifts starting between midday and 2pm (finishing at 9pm and 10pm) and waking nights starting at 9pm (finishing at 8am). There is also a requirement to complete Sleep-ins which are paid £50 additional per sleep in to salary. All shifts will be given in advance and are allocated on a rolling rota basis.
