Clinicians employed into the team are part of an exciting and developing service aimed at supporting our most vulnerable patients and their families in the least restrictive setting possible, by providing a variety of highly intensive interventions at home.

Main duties of the job

A Crisis can manifest with a range of needs and whether you have a background in mental health nursing, social care or occupational therapy we want you to use your skills as part of a team to develop individualised care packages for our service users and their families.

We deliver home treatment interventions, as well as an online acute treatment programme and clinics at Saffron House, with support from psychiatrists, psychologist and the other clinicians. Training in brief interventions is encouraged and fully supported, as well as any other training related to Crisis Intervention and Home treatment.

Service Users access a crisis response in a variety of ways, ranging from referrals from their GP and attendance at an emergency department, to when they need care in the community and are seen by the police and our street triage teams. The aim of the Urgent Care Pathway is to bring together all those access points under one team, including:

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We require a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social worker who can work independently, with the support of the team leaders and the wider crisis team clinicians and can bring their own professional expertise to a fast-paced team, and who are confident in managing risk in the least restrictive way.

By its nature, crisis work requires professionals who have a broad range of skills including being skilled mental health assessors with a proven ability to signpost service users towards the most effective treatment pathways. The Crisis Clinician role is an important development in nursing care provision and is pivotal in helping us deliver safe and effective care to our patients.

The successful applicants will participate in a duty rota of early, late or long day shifts covering 7 days a week and we are committed to supporting staff to balance home and work life. We are a friendly and supportive team with strong leadership and direction. Our work is interesting and varied with plenty of opportunities to learn new skills both in the workplace and via our excellent Learning & Development team. The role is predominantly based at Saffron House in High Wycombe and may require some wider travel within the county.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist educated to degree level or equivalent. Teaching qualification or working towards qualification.

Desirable criteria

Phlebotomy qualification. Health promotion qualification , including smoking cessation. PSI qualification. Brief PSI qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

Understanding of team working models. Experience of implementing evidence-based practice. Ability to cope under pressure and problem solve when managing complex situations and competing priorities

Desirable criteria

Experience of being part of a service improvement project.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Good negotiation skills and able to use initiative Good working knowledge physical health management strategies and interventions. High level of clinical knowledge and skill including knowledge of recent national, regional and local health strategies. Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance. Able to communicate at various levels with empathy. Experience of working independently and set own priorities in line with team vision. Knowledge of a range of IT programs including Microsoft excel and office. Ability to contribute to the identification of individual / team / service training and development needs.
