Job Title: Adult Mental Health Crisis Support Team Lead

Buckinghamshire Mind is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Team Lead to supervise and support a small team of Mental Health Crisis Support Workers within our Safe Haven Service.

About the Role

The Safe Haven Service offers a welcoming, safe, friendly, and non-stigmatising environment for people to access in times of mental health crisis. The service provides an 'out-of-hours' facility as an alternative to A&E or secondary care mental health presentations for those without physical need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall line management responsibility for the successful delivery and smooth running of Safe Haven in High Wycombe.
  • Coach and support Safe Haven workers in their provision of high-quality advice and emotional support to individuals who are referred to the service.
  • Supervise and offer guidance to the Safe Haven Workers around therapeutic and wellbeing-focused interventions for those service users in emotional distress.
  • Ensure that effective risk assessment and safety planning is carried out.
  • Ensure data and qualitative information is collected and collated, as required and directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Monitor the quality of the service and ensure appropriate data is collected (in line with GDPR) to monitor outputs and outcomes.
  • Carry out initial assessments and maintain accurate case records within the required data collection and reporting system.
  • Provide emotional support to individuals referred to the Mental Health Safety Planning Service.
  • Utilise the online Bucks Mind Guide to help people to develop self-management strategies and to make the best use of the local resources around them, signposting or making referrals as required.
  • Ensure the wellbeing and safety of service users, reporting any concerns to your line manager.
  • Ensure Safeguarding concerns are responded to appropriately in line with Buckinghamshire Mind's Safeguarding Policies.
  • Work collaboratively with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust staff to support, develop, and promote both the Safe Haven services.
  • Prepare for and attend regular individual and group supervisions.
  • Be proactive in reviewing and evaluating personal performance and identifying areas for improvement and development; participate in annual personal review meetings.
  • Attend training as appropriate and show a willingness to undertake professional development opportunities relevant to the role.
  • Work within Buckinghamshire Mind's and Berkshire Mind's policies and procedures including Performance Management, Confidentiality, Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Service User Involvement, Health and Safety, and the Professional Boundaries policy.
  • Keep informed about other projects, events, and related issues regarding Buckinghamshire and Berkshire Mind.
  • Inform Buckinghamshire Mind colleagues if Mind Guide information needs revising or if any additional services are identified for inclusion.
Requirements
  • Excellent team management skills and a high level of ability to support and supervise staff.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to high-risk situations which may include self-harm or suicide ideation.
  • Proven experience of providing an adult mental health support service.
  • Knowledge and experience of supporting people with mental health problems to increase their independence and to develop self-management strategies.
  • Experience responding to emotional crisis, safety planning, and suicide response/prevention.
  • High level of ability to develop and deliver a high-quality service.
  • Background in mental health.
  • Positive attitude towards people with mental health problems, in particular people's ability to develop and change.
  • Strong commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.
  • Ability to support and coach staff to develop boundaried therapeutic relationships with vulnerable adults.
  • Experience of providing training to groups and/or individuals.
  • Understanding and knowledge of other mental health and related services, both voluntary and statutory.
  • Good level of IT skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills especially with people who experience/have experienced mental health issues.
  • Able to network and build sustainable working partnerships with volunteers, staff, and other agencies.
  • Maintains confidentiality in line with Buckinghamshire Mind policy.
