Job Summary


Our Charles River Discovery, Saffron Walden site have an opportunity for an Associate Technical Specialist (Bioanalysis),

 

This is a lab-based role in our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetic (DMPK) team with a focus on accurately measuring concentrations of potential new therapies in biological samples.

 

At Charles River, you will be an integral part of our DMPK team working in a motivated and supportive environment. You will rapidly develop lab skills, as well as working closely with colleagues in multidisciplinary teams to deliver results to your clients.

 

In addition to developing your practical skills, you will have opportunities to expand your non-lab skills within areas such as communication, scientific writing and operational or continuous improvement initiatives, whilst learning about the drug discovery process in a fast-moving and dynamic Contract Research Organisation.


 

What You'll Be Doing

 

  • You will be processing biological samples to determine the concentration of novel compounds designed to treat a range of medical conditions. This data is used to select the compounds with the best chance of meeting all the criteria to become a new drug. Attention to detail, accuracy and precision are key

 

  • You will be using mass spectrometers to detect each compound.

 

  • Full training will be given in every step of the process, from developing and optimising the detection methods, to sample and data processingAs your confidence in using and understanding the instruments grows you will also perform routine instrument validation and maintenance dutiesYou will maintain a safe working environment, and be expected to be an active participant on the general laboratory housekeeping rota’s.

 

  • The data you generate will be used to determine the pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of compounds and understand the relationship between concentration and effect (pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) relationships), and in support of predicting the dose required in humans to have the desired outcome whilst maintaining safety margin.

 

Skills and Experience

 

  • BSc in a scientific discipline.

 

  • Prior internship / work experience / shadowing.

 

  • Previous work experience at similar CROs / pharma / biotech companies is advantageous.

 

  • Effective communicator.

 

  • Works effectively as part of a team.

 

  • Attention to detail.

 

  • Strong desire to develop a lab-based career discovering new medicines.
