Credit Control Assistant

Specific Purpose Role: Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Specific Purpose Contracts only:

Should a permanent Credit Control Assistant vacancy arise during the course of the Specific Purpose Contract, the successful candidate will be offered the position on a permanent basis subject to pre-specified conditions.

The role

Reporting to the Credit Control Lead, the Credit Control Assistant will be responsible for ensuring monies are recovered from customers who do not pay within payment terms.

Additionally, they will take responsibility for tackling and preventing current and aged debt, whilst ensuring the delivery of required standards of performance. 

About The Role

Key Priorities:

  • Contact late paying customers by telephone, letter, and email to recover outstanding gas payments

  • Highlight bad debt to the Credit Control Lead to be escalated for further action

  • Negotiate and confirm payment plans with customers and follow up on incoming payments

  • Liaise with the Sales and Account Management teams to obtain their full support in the proactive management of bad debts

  • Process refunds when appropriate.

  • Process domestic credit checks

  • Any other duties as directed by the Credit Control Lead/Manager

Desired Criteria

  • Familiarity with CRM software and systems
  • Experience within the utilities industry

Required Criteria

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent) including English & Maths, OR minimum of 1 year experience in a Credit Control role
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work on own initiative
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word and outlook
