Swansea is an innovative waterfront city at the heart of the wider Swansea Bay City Region. From stunning coastal scenery to tranquil parks, from its thriving cultural scene to the best of modern city living, the city offers the best of all worlds.

Child and Family Swansea's purpose is doing what matters to make things better for children, young people and families.

An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for two Specialist Psychologists in our psychologically led Swansea Therapeutic Team based in the Family Support Service, Child and Family Services in Swansea - a great place to live and work. We are looking to recruit two Specialist Practitioner Psychologists with substantial knowledge and experience of working with developmental trauma. Experience of working with families within the care system and social care teams would be beneficial but not essential. The team is a trauma informed, attachment focussed team who pride themselves on providing high quality, innovative and meaningful work with children/young people and the systems that support them. We aim to tailor interventions in a sequential and developmentally congruent way. Our interventions centrally involve the main carer and draw upon the latest family models of best practice. These include principles of Sensory Attachment, Theraplay® and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).

The role will include therapeutic work, consultation to social care staff and engagement of the wider network supporting children and families in Swansea. This post would be good fit for someone who is interested in working flexibly, creatively and innovatively to address the needs of children and young people. We also work in collaboration with partner agencies. We are formulation and needs driven and led support colleagues to develop their understanding of the child through therapeutic and psychological lenses. We draw upon theories and associated interventions for the neurological, self-regulatory and relational impact of trauma. We believe in continual professional development and train members of our team in relational/systemic models of work that fit our ethos. Additionally, there are established links with the wider network of psychologists and psychological therapists across the Swansea Bay Health board.

We are currently re-modelling our whole therapeutic offer across the Child and Family service, following substantial funding it is considerably expanding, the appointed post holders will have a crucial role in leading the development of therapeutic services within Edge of Care/Supported Care Planning and with children who are looked after, respectively.

At Swansea, we understand the need to nurture and support staff. From the excellent induction process when you join us and throughout your time with us, we will support your work and career. The recently implemented workforce wellbeing strategy supports our focus on staff care. You will also benefit from experienced and supportive managers and a risk sensible culture.

Our vision in Swansea which is well understood by the current workforce is 'doing what matters to make things better for children, young people and families. This is reflected in our drive that wherever safe children should remain in the care of their birth families. Signs of Safety is our practice framework and we have used the reclaiming Social Work model to form supported care planning pods, led by a Practice Lead. This supports good supervision and collaboration between staff and teams. Building positive respectful relationships with families, listening to children, understanding what matters and ensuring they are involved in decisions that affect their lives is at the heart of what we do.
