We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and dynamic team at a thriving secondary school in Stockport. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Work directly with students who have SEMH needs, providing tailored support both in the classroom and during extracurricular activities. You will help to create a safe and nurturing environment that encourages positive behavior and emotional well-being.
  • Collaboration with SENCo: Liaise closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to develop and implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) that address each student’s unique challenges and strengths.
  • One-on-One and Small Group Interventions: Deliver targeted interventions on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, focusing on academic support, social skills development, and emotional regulation.
  • Behavior Management: Assist in implementing behavior management strategies and support students in developing coping mechanisms for anxiety, frustration, and other emotional difficulties.
  • Monitoring Progress: Regularly assess and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers, SENCo, and parents/carers as needed. Ensure that the student's needs are being met and adjust support strategies as required.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with students who have SEMH needs is essential. Experience in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.
  • Skills: You must be compassionate, patient, and empathetic with a strong ability to build positive relationships with students. Excellent communication skills are crucial, both for interacting with students and collaborating with staff and parents.
  • Knowledge: A good understanding of SEMH challenges and how they can impact a student’s educational experience. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies is also important.
  • Qualifications: While formal qualifications are beneficial, we value experience and the right attitude above all. A background in psychology, education, or social work would be an advantage.
