This full-time position is available to start as soon as possible and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance. The pay for this role ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who experience social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your primary responsibility will be to assist these students in accessing the curriculum and achieving their full potential, both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1:1 and Group Support: Provide targeted support to students with SEMH needs, either on a one-on-one basis or in small groups. Your role will involve helping these students to engage with their studies, manage their emotions, and develop coping strategies for the challenges they face.

  • Behavioural Support: Work closely with students to encourage positive behaviour and reduce instances of disruptive behaviour. You will help implement behaviour management plans, providing consistent support to ensure students can maintain focus and participate fully in classroom activities.

  • Emotional and Social Development: Assist students in developing their social skills and emotional resilience. This may involve working on communication skills, conflict resolution, and self-regulation techniques, helping students to build positive relationships with their peers and teachers.

  • Personalized Learning: Adapt and differentiate learning materials to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH. Your support will ensure that these students can access the curriculum and make progress in their studies.

  • Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with teachers, the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other school staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies. Your insights will be vital in ensuring that the needs of students with SEMH are met effectively.

  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor the progress of students with SEMH, keeping detailed records of their development. You will report back to the SENCO and teaching staff, providing feedback that will inform future interventions and support.

  • Safe and Inclusive Environment: Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students with SEMH feel valued and understood. You will play a key role in fostering a positive school culture that promotes mental well-being and emotional growth.

  • Crisis Management: Be prepared to offer immediate support during emotional or behavioural crises, using de-escalation techniques and providing a calm, reassuring presence.

  • Parental Engagement: Work with parents and carers to ensure they are informed and involved in their child’s progress. Your communication will help build a strong partnership between home and school, supporting the student’s overall development.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, either in an educational setting or through related experience.
  • A strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH and the strategies that can support their development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in dealing with challenging behaviour and emotionally charged situations.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Benefits:

  • Competitive weekly pay between £419.25 and £500.
  • The opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young people with SEMH needs.
  • Full training and ongoing professional development provided by Teaching Personnel.
  • The possibility of the role becoming permanent, offering long-term career opportunities.
