GSL Education are supporting a local primary school in Bournemouth in seeking a dedicated Site Maintenance Assistant who is passionate about maintaining a safe and clean school environment.
As a Site Maintenance Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring the security of the school premises, performing regular checks on equipment and facilities, and addressing any maintenance issues promptly. You will manage daily tasks such as litter pick-up, minor repairs, and maintaining clear pedestrian access, especially during severe weather. Additionally, you will escort and monitor contractors, handle deliveries, and ensure the proper functioning of staff and pupil toilet facilities.
The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in site maintenance, a keen eye for detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. The school values a healthy work-life balance and offers a supportive staff community. This position has scope to become permanent if the school and the candidate believe they are the right fit for the role.
Position: Caretaker
Responsibilities:
- Activate/de-activate burglar alarms and ensure security as a key holder.
- Perform regular checks on playground/equipment, alarm systems, and fire extinguishers; report issues.
- Conduct daily litter pick-up and maintain cleanliness of school grounds.
- Report and address building or furniture deficiencies; perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Escort and monitor contractors, ensuring safety and quality of work.
- Manage deliveries and keep drains and gutters clear.
- Ensure safe pedestrian access, especially during severe weather.
- Maintain and stock staff and pupil toilet facilities; handle blockages.
- Set up and put away furniture for school events; manage waste collection.
- Comply with Health and Safety regulations; report hazards and adhere to safety guidelines.
- Operate manual/power tools for repairs and maintenance; understand alarm/CCTV systems with provided training.
The ideal candidate should:
- Have experience of general maintenance/plumbing or DIY
- Are enthusiastic, efficient, flexible (particularly with regards working hours), friendly and reliable
- Have the ability to work on your own and use initiative and also as part of a team
- Willing to participate in training as needed
