Job summary

The post advertised is for a Principal Psychological Therapist or Clinical Psychologist to provide clinical leadership, direct and indirect clinical interventions in the Sunderland West Community Treatment Team.

The service offers the systematic provision of multidisciplinary, and evidence-based bio-psychosocial interventions to adults with complex mental health presentations.

The team values collaborative engagement and formulation with service users and their families, ensuring that service users are at the centre of their care and treatment.

The post holder will be the key clinical decision maker on acceptance to the service. They will provide consultation, assessment and psychological therapy to complex cases.

In addition a key element of this role is to oversee the provision of NICE recommended psychological interventions within the team and provide clinical supervision and scaffolding to members of the MDT.

The South Community CBU psychology service is active in delivering an excellent programme of training across the community teams.

There is also an opportunity to provide teaching to trainee clinical psychologists and share specialist knowledge across the wider community care group.

The post holder will supported to oversee ongoing research and audit, recognising that these are central to improving knowledge and patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is responsible for leading a qualified specialist psychologically-informed service to clients in the Sunderland West Community Treatment Team, providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy, in addition to clinical supervision and advice to colleagues, on psychological aspects of assessment, formulation, care and treatment.

The post-holder will take a lead role for specialist psychological assessment and treatments for complex presentations within the team, and will contribute in-depth specialist knowledge and skills drawing upon appropriate evidence-based interventions.

The post-holder is responsible for providing leadership and mentorship within the team and across the locality, offering specialist advice and consultation regarding aspects of best practice.

The post-holder as part of wider psychology team is responsible for devising, delivering appropriate clinical training and ensuring that appropriate clinical supervision is in place to enable embedding of psychological skills.

Essential

Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings Substantial experience of providing clinical supervision Substantial post qualification experience of delivering evidence based psychological therapy training to a range of professional groups Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS Skills in managing emotional impact of dealing with highly emotive and distressing situations through self-management and use of the clinical supervision process

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings. Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead. Substantial post qualification experience of delivering evidence based psychological therapy training to a range of professional groups. Substantial experience of providing clinical supervision.

An accredited practitioner in CBT/EMDR

Qualifications

Essential

HCPC registered practitioner psychologist or equivalent BABCP registered CBT practitioner. or Member of an appropriate professional body Qualification in clinical psychology or a therapy qualification from an accredited course that leads to the title psychological therapist Have completed an additional training in a second therapeutic modality

Desirable

Accredited in supervision training - ideally EMDR
