Main duties of the job

As the main point of contact for our students at evenings and weekends, the Duty Wellbeing Adviser provides an immediate response in support for students experiencing emotional, psychological, or mental health difficulties.

We are looking for talented individuals who demonstrate excellent communication skills, and work sensitively, empathetically, and calmly with people that are experiencing distress or are in crisis. This role may also involve liaison with the on-campus security team, university accommodation providers, local hospitals, and the police.

We are looking for applications from people with a proven clinical background, and experience in mental health/clinical practice, and/or supporting people in crisis or in challenging situations.

The post holder will work across all sites in the University. As this role mainly supports students outside of core working hours it will include a range of shifts on a rotational basis.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Workingas part of the wider Student Support Service Team, the Student Support Duty WellbeingAdviser will report to the Wellbeing and Counselling Manager and will work inparallel with the other Student Support Managers. The Duty Wellbeing Adviser willbe expected to liaise with other Heads of Service, the Director of StudentExperience and Support and other key stakeholders across the University.

As themain point of contact for our students over evenings and weekends, the DutyWellbeing Adviser will be responsible for responding to immediate student needswhen they find themselves in crisis or distress. The postholder will be providing an immediateresponse for support for students experiencing emotional, psychological, or mentalhealth difficulties. The post holderwill be expected to respond in a timely manner and work in partnership with internaland external stakeholders to provide a rapid, high-quality, and supportive studentexperience. This role may also involve liaison with the on-campus securityteam, university accommodation providers, local hospitals, and the police. The post holder will be expected to work in anyof the sites across the University. The working pattern will include a range of shifts on arotational basis between the hours of 8am and 8pm Monday Sunday.

Responsibilities

Provideface to face, on campus support for students in crisis or in challengingsituations during evenings and weekends on the University campus.

Providesafe, ethical, and effective standards of intervention for students that need immediatehelp or support.

Demonstrate excellent communication and negotiationskills, with a proven ability to work sensitively, empathetically, and calmly withpeople that are experiencing distress or are in crisis.

Useyour experience, expertise, and sound judgement to provide risk assessment,case management and clinical leadership in difficult decision-making situations/clinical dilemmas.

Fostera culture of collaborative working across professional services and Schoolteams, providing professional advice and/ or support in relation to studentwellbeing where appropriate.

Workcollaboratively with other areas of the University to maintain a safe, supportive,and healthy student campus.

Tosignpost and support students in connecting with other student support servicessuch as Report and Support, Counselling and Wellbeing services, Money Adviceand Funding, Disability Inclusion Service, the on campus medical centre andmore.

Providea comprehensive, factual, and clear handover to the next Duty Wellbeing Adviseron shift including details of cases received, the action that has been takenand next steps required.

Performany other duties appropriate to the grade as may be required by the Head ofStudent Support, Student Support Managers or Director of Student Experience andSupport.

Complywith the personal health and safety responsibilities specified in theUniversity Health and Safety policy.
