Mission & role of the function
- Leading a team of Weighbridge Technicians in the day to day operation of the weighbridge function and transport plan.
- Overseeing the management of resource available at relevant sites and depots under their control.
- The role holder will be responsible for daily management of driver behaviour. The role will also be responsible for company owned vehicle and driver compliance to Health & Safety, EU regulations, Working Time Directive and all aspects or road transport law.
Key accountabilities
- To lead, oversee and manage processing of vehicles and resources on a daily basis
- Ensure compliance by staff of all statutory legislation and company regulations in respect of transport, health and safety and any other requirements in respect of haulage and delivery arrangements
- Ensure the company fleet is maintained and operated at the highest standard, with full compliance to all regulatory requirements
- Liaising and communicating with other departments including, workshop, maintenance facilities, works and central planning office
- Maintaining relevant data base records for all resource requirements
- Ensuring that the centralised transport plan is developed and established in line with expectations
- Management of drivers, ensure that all company drivers are correctly trained and managed to achieve the required service and operational performance. Ensure driver adherence to handbook, policies and procedures
- Ensuring company vehicles are kept in a clean condition inside and out
- Day to day management of drivers and weighbridge technicians
- Ensure KPI's are maintained and actions put in place to make improvements where necessary
- Carry out any required site inductions
- Following all IMS procedures relating to his/her own work activities and his/her staff
- Ensuring that any customer complaints are recorded and investigated
- Ensuring that all drivers hours WTD & EU Drivers Hours Directives (tachographs) are analysed and outcomes are processed
- Manage company drivers worked hours, pay and compliance to tachograph rules
- Manage discipline issues that may occur, including co-ordination of investigations and hearings
- Good industrial relations are maintained including disciplinary procedures and actions
Job dimensions
- To oversee and manage fleet resource as well as driver resource to ensure that all are used in a cost effective and efficient manner on a daily basis
- Liaise effectively with customers, drivers and other associated departments to ensue efficient on time processing of deliveries
- Overseeing depots within region and supporting staff where necessary
- Review current methods of operation and identify areas for improvement
Must hold Transport Managers CPC
