Peterborough, United Kingdom Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Full time

Job overview

The Dual Diagnosis and Outreach Team ( DDOT) was created with Community Mental Health Transformation funding in to improve access to mental health services for clients with serious mental illness and multiple, complex needs who struggle to gain access to mental health services via more formal routes.

The DDOT is a small team with a Team Lead, a senior nurse and support workers. The team are an outreach arm of the Primary Care Mental Health Service (PCMHS) which works closely with GPs to ensure that people can access appropriate mental health care.

The DDOT are based in the Peterborough Town Hall but most of their work is out and about in Peterborough, joining the Rough Sleeper Outreach team for their shifts on the streets, mingling with staff and clients in the Garden House, the local drop-in centre for rough sleepers, or at the headquarters for Aspire which provides support for those clients with addictions to drugs and alcohol.

Main duties of the job

The applicant will be joining a vibrant and well-integrated community of services who work well together and who are passionate about their work. They will also be joining at a time when services for people with severe multiple disadvantages are expanding. An outreach psychological service is being set up in Primary Care, a new mobile unit is being bought by the Garden House, the outreach teams are expanding and a dedicated GP post for this cohort is being invested in.

The opportunities for career progression are also numerous with a significant number of senior nursing posts built into the new Peterborough Stepped Care Model. We are introducing more senior nursing roles because we want to promote a wealth of clinical experience in CPFT to promote clinical excellence and better patient care throughout Peterborough.

Regular clinical supervision will be offered by the DDOT team lead and there will also be opportunities to learn from the regular MDT clinical meetings with the PCMHS and training and case discussion sessions with the senior Lead Nurse Specialist for Personality Disorder and the Lead Primary Care Psychologist.

Successful applicants will need to be strong team workers with demonstrable commitment and enthusiasm for working with this client group. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a busy and innovative team on a pilot whose aim is to enhance the chances of local people achieving and maintaining optimal mental health within Peterborough.
